The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. UNJSPF administers benefits of more than 80,000 beneficiaries residing in more than 190 countries, paid in 18 currencies, and services more than 150,000 participants who work in the 25 member organizations of UNJSPF. The Fund has offices in New York (United States) and Geneva (Switzerland) and two liaison offices in Nairobi (Kenya) and Bangkok (Thailand), respectively. The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund-Pension Administration (UNJSPF-PA) comprises about 278 staff from diverse countries and cultures, based across four prominent duty stations (New York, Geneva, Bangkok, and Nairobi). This Programme Management Officer position is located in the Data Analysis Unit (DAU) within the Office of the Deputy Chief Executive of Pension Administration (DECPA) of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Programme Management Officer reports to the Chief, Data Analysis Unit, and the position is based in New York. The focus of this role is to undertake projects and tasks that contribute to the Pension Administrations data strategy and ongoing use of data to drive business results.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
  • Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning and facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
  • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Reviews and analyses issues and trends, prepares evaluations or other research activities and studies.
  • Prepares analysis and reports on business performance.
  • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
  • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
  • Coordinates activities related to budget planning.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, statistics or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Work Experience A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required. Two years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is required. Expertise in Excel, Power BI, Word, PowerPoint, presentation of data and analysis is required. At least two years of experience in a defined benefit Pension Fund is desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
