PART-TIME BAY AREA SMALL BUSINESS ORGANIZER

One Fair Wage is a national organization of service workers and restaurant owners seeking to
raise the minimum wage closer to the cost of living and an end to all subminimum wages. We
work to advance local, state and federal policy by educating policymakers, press and the public
on the need for One Fair Wage and by: mobilizing low-wage worker voters in support of One
Fair Wage; engaging high road employers and conscientious consumers in support of One Fair
Wage, and create consequences for low road actors on the issue; and producing research,
books, films and television to help shift the narrative on these issues.
Through our RAISE (Restaurants Advancing Industry Standards in Employment) network, we
have partnered with more than 1000 responsible restaurant owners across the country to
promote the high road to profitability. RAISE is a vibrant community of restaurants committed
to professionalizing our industry by raising wages, working conditions and standards for
Americans 13.6 million restaurant workers. RAISE members advocate for fair wages, better
benefits, racial equity and gender equity in the restaurant industry. WiIthin RAISE, we have
launched the High Road Kitchens program, to provide support, training, technical assistance
and recognition to restaurants willing to raise wages and increase equity to recruit and retain
staff.
We are looking to hire an energetic, committed part-time Bay Area Small Businesses Organizer
to grow the number of restaurants and other businesses who support raising wages, and
expand our base of restaurant employers in CA who support campaigns to improve wages and
working conditions in the restaurant industry.
POSITION LOCATION: Alameda County, CA
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct outreach to small restaurants and other businesses throughout Oakland and
Alameda County and identify businesses supportive of wage increases.
- Work to grow RAISE in CA, developing employer leadership by expanding existing
financial, consumer and training supports for employers to move to the high road, and
developing leadership of influential employers in each state to move to the high road by
mobilizing employers in support of worker-friendly policies
- Conduct outreach to restaurant owners
- Recruit high road restaurants to benefit from the High Road Kitchens program
- Coordinate with our research, communications and narrative shift to develop the data
and framing needed to win policy change.
- Help maintain core social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) by creating,
developing, and editing posts
- Coordinate with communications team on social media strategy and assist in strategy for
social growth
- Working to mobilize high road employers and target low road employers to
demonstrate the demand and need for One Fair wage policy.
- Other responsibilities as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- At least 3-5 years of community organizing, union organizing, and/or political organizing
experience, with some connection to community, labor, or other non-candidate politics;
- Ability to work independently, yet collaboratively to drive multiple projects and programs
in a fast-paced work environment;
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Results-focused, organized, attention to detail, and strong planning skills;
- Demonstrated commitment to racial, social, and economic justice and
- Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate some weekend and evening hours.
Preferred
- Restaurant work experience;
- Experience engaging small- to medium-sized business owners
- Experience with launching and/or managing a high-road business and/or social
enterprise, preferably one that is a restaurant or food-related;
- Additional language skills
Compensation for this part-time position will be negotiable based on experience, plus
