The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO), is seeking a highly qualified, strategic, and results-oriented professional to serve as Advisor, Hospital, Emergency, Critical and Specialized Health Services . This position plays a key role in advancing people-centered, high-quality, and resilient hospital and specialized care services within integrated health service delivery networks across the Region.
Under the general supervision of the Director, Health Systems and Services (HSS), and the direct supervision of the Unit Chief, Primary Health Care and Integrated Services Delivery (HSS/PH), the selected candidate will:
Provide technical cooperation and strategic advice to strengthen hospitals and specialized care services within integrated health service delivery networks.
- Support Member States in the organization, management, and governance of hospitals, including emergency, surgical, critical, and highly specialized services.
- Promote quality of care, patient safety, and people-centered models of care across hospital and outpatient specialized services.
- Contribute to the planning and development of hospital infrastructure projects, including commissioning, decommissioning, and climate change adaptation.
- Foster collaboration with national authorities, health professionals, communities, and partners to improve access, continuity, and quality of hospital and specialized care services. Education A bachelors degree in one of the health sciences, and a masters degree in public health, health systems/services administration, or any other field related to the functions of the post, from an accredited institution. Experience Nine years of combined national and international experience in the field of health systems and services management at an advisory or executive level, including 5 years’ experience in hospital care and management. Languages Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with working knowledge of the other language. IT Skills Demonstrated ability to effectively use current technology and software, spreadsheets and presentations, as well as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and management information systems. Other IT skills and knowledge of software programs such as SIP Plus, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint and Word are considered essential.
