Technical Officer, Neglected Tropical Diseases

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) , Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO) , is seeking a motivated, technically strong, and resultsoriented Technical Officer, Neglected Tropical Diseases to support Member States in the prevention, control, and elimination of priority neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the Region of the Americas.

Under the general supervision of the Director, Department of Communicable Diseases Prevention, Control and Elimination (CDE), and the direct supervision of the Advisor, Neglected Infectious Diseases, the selected candidate will contribute to regional and country efforts aimed at achieving elimination targets for neglected tropical diseases by 2030.

The incumbent will:

Provide technical cooperation to Member States in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of strategies, plans, and programs for the prevention, control, and elimination of neglected tropical diseases.

Support the planning and implementation of integrated national action plans, including mass drug administration campaigns, surveillance activities, and transmission assessment surveys.

Collaborate in the preparation of technical documents, guidelines, advocacy materials, progress reports, and situation analyses related to neglected tropical diseases.

Strengthen interprogrammatic and intersectoral collaboration within PAHO and with external partners to enhance sustainable and costeffective disease elimination efforts.

Contribute to capacitybuilding activities, including training workshops, regional forums, and virtual collaboration platforms.

Support research, knowledge generation, and dissemination through scientific articles, policy documents, and technical reports.

What is required for this position?

Education

Essential: A university degree in a health science related to the functions of the post from a recognized university.Desirable: A masters degree in public health or epidemiology, with emphasis on neglected tropical diseases would be an asset.

Experience

Essential: Seven years of combined national and international experience working in epidemiology and public health and in the implementation of NTD health projects or health research and data analysis.Desirable: Experience in Neglected Tropical Diseases surveillance, prevention, control and elimination in Latin America and the Caribbean would be an asset.

Languages

Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of Portuguese and/or French would be an asset.

IT Skills

Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook. Proficiency with software for mapping, GIS and/or statistical analysis software is required. Knowledge of other software programs such as SAS, SPSS, Epidat, Epinfo, Stata, and Tableau will be an asset.

Duration of Contract

This is an initial 11-month assignment, with possibility of extensions for up to 24 months, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
