WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):
Perform Perioperative Autologous Cell Salvage (PACS) services and manage related equipment to support recovery and reinfusion of blood into patients. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
Transport and operate PACS equipment and perform specified salvage procedures which may include Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) sequestration.
Assess patient/surgical procedure for suitability for PACS.
Monitor blood loss, assess appropriate time for washing of salvaged blood, and communicate to anesthesia and/or nursing staff the blood volume processed and available to be returned to patient. Notify surgeon and/or anesthesiologist in charge if problems occur with the procedure.
Maintain accurate, complete and legible records pertaining to the patient and the PACS or Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) procedure. Label for reinfusion the autologous product, as appropriate.
Remove disposable equipment, remove and report defective equipment, and clean equipment at end of the procedure. Ensure necessary equipment, supplies, and disposal are available for the next cell salvage procedure.
Report incidents and adverse reactions and complete appropriate paperwork, reviewing department paperwork and monthly reports with Supervisor.
Collect samples of the salvaged blood product for quality assurance purposes.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):
Associates degree required with current CPR certification.
1 year of related experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, and attention to detail required.
Ability to work independently, react quickly, and work effectively in a surgical setting is required.
Familiar with basic aseptic technique preferred.
Demonstrated customer service and technical skills with the ability to operate medical equipment required.
Must be willing to work a varied schedule, including some evenings and on-call responsibilities. Previous truck and/or bus driving experience is desirable.
May be required to have own vehicle, a valid and current drivers license, insurance, and a good driving record. Current relevant licensure in the state of practice, if applicable. Ability to work on a team.
Out-of-town travel may be required.
