Full Job Description
In a career as a Surgical Technologist (also known as Surg Tech/CST/Surgery Tech/OR Tech), you will join a collaborative team in providing life-changing care to patients and their families from across the region. You will provide support to some of the best surgeons while performing complex and difficult surgeries. You can be a part of this and maintain a work life balance: You will not be required to work nights, off shifts, week-ends, or holidays. We have minimal call and call for holidays on a rotating basis. Schedule: 4x 10 hour shifts Days: TBD Hiring Bonus: $5000.00 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Performs the required duties in the OR under the supervision of the RN Circulating Nurse and according to hospital standards/policy. Utilizes the Surgeon Preference Card and with circulating nurse, identifies and gathers all necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments for each operative procedure. Assures proper handling of contaminated instruments and cleaning of room after cases. Performs housekeeping duties as needed. Assists surgeon by anticipating needs and providing instruments and other materials in a timely manner. Takes direction from M.D. staff or R.N., when necessary in an emergency situation. Responsible for working with team members as time permits for: assisting in other O.R.’s as needed, picking procedure supplies for the next day’s schedule, stocking/restocking supply areas and O.R,’s, outdating supply cupboards, and updating Surgeon Preference Cards. Maintains “The Joint Commission” standards on an ongoing basis, and assists in unit responsibilities for readiness for Joint Commission visits. Participates in department performance improvement activities. Cross-trained to each surgical specialty area at both campuses, if needed. Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing. Ability to utilize a variety of computer programs to manage work. Ability to follow AORN guidelines for perioperative practice. Ability to maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with public, other consumers and other employees. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Surgical Tech I: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate from an accredited surgical/operating room technician program, and/or minimum of two years of experience in an operating room required. Must be CPR (BLS) certified required. Surgical Tech II High school diploma or equivalent required Graduate from an accredited surgical/operating room technician program, and/or minimum of two years experience in an operating room Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required and maintained Must be CPR (BLS) certified Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT: Sedentary to medium work, occasionally having to exert up to 50 pounds of force. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, such as in typical office or administrative work. Is frequently subject to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, and gases.
