Who we are looking for:

Internship activities include:

Non-profit governance

Assist with preparing for meetings of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and other Board committees as needed.

Assist with preparing meeting materials, coordinating travel logistics with Board and committee members, taking minutes during the meeting(s), and completing post-meeting action items.

Attend meetings and work directly with ASCO leadership, including the ASCO Presidents.

ASCO Election

Provide support in all activities leading up to the summer Nominating Committee meetings which include assisting in the pre-screening of nominees to determine eligibility, preparing meeting materials, preparing the voting site, coordinating travel logistics with committee members, and post-meeting follow-ups.

Attend the Nominating Committee meetings, take minutes, and perform other meeting support tasks, as needed.

Special Awards Program

Assist with creating the 2027 program timeline and coordinate with groups across ASCO to ensure deliverables and due dates adhere to organizational expectations.

Assist with determining eligibility of special award nominees and prepare materials for the review and selection of the 2027 ASCO special award recipients.

Required qualifications:

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate BA/BS degree program, or graduate program, or recently graduated from a 4-year degree program. Candidates must be at least a junior or entering their junior year of college at the start of the internship.

Experience using Microsoft Office tools, Smartsheet, Adobe Acrobat, and Zoom

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Excellent organization skills

Excellent time management skills and ability to effectively meet deadlines

Strong attention to detail

Strong customer service skills and professionalism

Prior experience attending committee meetings is a plus

Prior experience in scheduling is a plus

Prior experience working with high-level executives (i.e., CEOs, Board members) is a plus

Duration: 10 weeks during the summer June 8, 2026 to August 14, 2026. This internship is 37.5 hours per week.

Compensation: This summer internship position is paid at a rate of $20/hour for actual hours worked. Additionally, ASCO will provide parking or a metro subsidy.

Location: This internship is based in Alexandria, VA and will require working onsite the majority of the time with some offsite work flexibility. Candidates should reside in the D.C. metro area or be able to relocate at their own expense. If you are not able to work at ASCO Headquarters, please do not apply.
