Org. Setting and Reporting
The mandate of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote sustainable and inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region. The role of ESCAP as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership with policy-oriented research and analysis and with normative, technical and capacity-building assistance to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of countries in Asia and the Pacific. The ESCAP Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia (SOENEA) works with China, the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea, as well as with Hong Kong, China, and Macao China. In addition, it works with the Russian Federation on matters of technical cooperation. SOENEA also serves as the Secretariat of the North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Environmental Cooperation (NEASPEC). This position is located in the SOENEA. The incumbent reports to the Senior Economic Affairs Officer and Deputy Head, SOENEA.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Economic Affairs Officer and Deputy Head, SOENEA and overall supervision of the Head of the Office, the incumbent is required to perform the following functions:
- Assists in the organization of the annual subregional SDG Forum and associated events (e.g., on development cooperation, CSOs engagement, etc).
- Assists in organization of events/meetings/briefings to promote awareness in priority areas of East and North-East Asia.
- Researches, compiles and organizes information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, studies, briefings, meetings/conferences, etc.
- Performs a wide range of office support and administrative functions.
- Provides administrative and logistics support to meetings, boards, committees, conferences, etc.
- Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software.
- Supports the coordination of travel arrangement for meeting participants, experts, resource persons, and other visitors, create travel requests, and prepare travel expense reports.
- Prepares and/or processes administrative requests/documents (e.g requisitions for procurement of services/goods)
- Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases.
- Responds or drafts responses to routine correspondence and other communications; uses standard word processing package to produce a wide variety of large, complex documents and reports.
- Assists in coordination with media, other UN organizations, and stakeholders both public and private organizations in relation to public information and outreach activities.
- Liaises with the host city regarding office operation and joint activity.
- Assists in preparation and compilation of various outreach products, such as leaflet, brochure, and other promotion activities for the offices outreach programme activities.
- Assists in the maintenance of websites by compiling relevant information, tables text, data, photo, and presentation for posting onto the site.
- Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.

Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. A first-level university degree in combination with one year of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of three years of required experience. Job – Specific Qualification A first-level university degree related to economics, international relations, social sciences or related areas is desirable. Work Experience A minimum of three years (or one year if graduated with a first-level university degree) of experience in general office support or related area is required. Experience in assisting in carrying out research and analysis on development topics such as SDGs, economics, science, connectivity, technology, innovation (STI) and/or social is desirable. Experience in providing administrative support to international meetings is desirable. Experience working in Northeast Asia is desirable. Experience in the United Nations Common System or in international organizations similar to those in the UN Common System is desirable. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English and Korean are required. Either Chinese (Mandarin) or Russian or French or Arabic or Spanish is desirable.
