Duties and Responsibilities

The internship is in the Social Media Section of the Department of Global Communications. The section is responsible for social media activities of the Department of Global Communications and the integration of social media platforms, including social networking tools such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, which are critical component of the Department’s communications. Within delegated authority, the public information intern may be responsible for the following duties: – Research, compile, draft and edit basic information for use in the preparation and production of social media content, often under tight deadlines. – Monitor and analyze statistics related to social media content. – Gather social media content at special events (film screenings, concerts, exhibits, etc.). – Assist in the creation of original content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn. – Attend meetings as an observer. – Manage meeting agendas and draft meeting notes. – Assist with special projects as assigned. Interns will need to provide all necessary hardware (computer), software and internet connection to perform the internship.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: – Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). – Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Please list your area of study. – Familiarity with software programmes Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop (or graphic design programmes) is desirable. Please list you experience with these or similar programmes. – Familiarity with and/or interest in taking digital photographs is desirable. Please list any experience you have in this area. – Familiarity and/or professional experience with major social media platforms, including, but not limited to X, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok is desirable.

Languages

English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese, Kiswahili or Hindi is desirable.
