Job Summary

This technical leadership consultancy offers a unique opportunity to drive urban resilience initiatives across Latin America, focusing on climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction. As a Technical Leader in Urban Resilience with United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, you will spearhead innovative projects that help cities adapt to climate change, reduce vulnerability to natural disasters, and build sustainable urban systems. Your work will involve developing resilience frameworks, conducting vulnerability assessments, facilitating multi-stakeholder partnerships, and implementing cutting-edge solutions for climate-resilient urban development. Qualifications

  • Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in urban development, urban system, governance or related area is required.
  • Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree in combination with at least two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Academic Qualifications: Minimum 5 years of experience in Disaster Risk Reduction, urban planning, urban development and related areas, such as local level, infrastructure or public administration is required.
  • Academic Qualifications: Familiarity with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, disaster risk reduction, MCR2030 initiative is desirable..
  • Language: English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • Fluency in Russian and English is required..

Skills

  • Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries.
  • The development of a Compendium of Best Practices for Urban Resilience Building in Central Asia, will be an integral part of a regional training module and support the fostering of closer cooperation through the engagement of cities of Central Asia in the Making Cities Resilient 2030 initiative.
  • The Compendium will build on case studies from across the region and serve as a regional knowledge product to support local governments, national authorities, and development partners in advancing resilience actions aligned with disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation integration.
