South Coastal Counties Legal Services (SCCLS) seeks to hire an Intake Supervising Attorney. The Intake Supervisors primary job responsibility is to organize and supervise the intake and referral services and processes at SCCLS. Our programs, including through our subsidiary the Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts, provide a wide range of assistance to residents across the region. We have field offices in Hyannis, New Bedford, Brockton, and Fall River. Our intake unit handles a wide variety of cases for a diverse population of clients across a broad geographic area.

The Intake Supervisor must work with organizational leadership and managers, practice area supervisors, and staff to oversee and direct intake processes at our agency. They must further strive to improve access to help for our clients and to improve the critical civil legal services we deliver to the most vulnerable people living in our service area. Finally, they must play a leading role in continuously improving, redesigning, and improving our intake system.

The Organization:

SCCLS is a growing non-profit civil legal aid program where the mission is to fight injustice and poverty by advocating on behalf of low-income individuals and families across Southeastern Massachusetts, the Cape and Islands, in civil matters when their basic needs are at stake The organization prioritizes legal services in housing, public benefits, elder law, domestic relations, employment, education, immigration, and consumer matters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, promote and evaluate systems and protocols for providing effective intake, information, and referral services for diverse communities across the southeastern region of Massachusetts.

Supervise the work, training and professional development of paraprofessional staff of the intake Call Center (currently 8 employees) and work with Managing Attorneys and Practice Area Supervisors to make intake, information and referral services consistent throughout the organization.

Develop information and referral materials as needed to support the organization.

Effectively utilize the Legal Server case management software, TPx Call Center program and other technology to improve the provision, supervision and evaluation of Intake, Information and referral services.

Develop and utilize intake metrics to help our organization respond to trends and new developments in our service area.

Assist SCCLS leadership as requested in pursuing funding opportunities, outreach, reporting to funders and with grant compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Admitted to practice in Massachusetts and in good standing with the BBO.

Minimum 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney with substantive expertise in relevant poverty law subjects (including but not limited to housing, benefits, elder, health, family, and consumer law).

Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income families, elders, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.

Supervisory experience.

Ability to think creatively and collaborate with others on approaches to delivering, reporting on and evaluating intake, information and referral services.

Proficiency in MS office Suite and experience with Legal Server.
