Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC)is seeking aControllerto serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Financial Officer/EVP and help guide the financial future of our organization.

GSNC is the preeminent nonprofit youth organization serving girls in Nassau County. Through our programs, girls build courage, confidence, and character while learning leadership and community service in a fun and safe environment.

TheControllerplays a key role providing financial planning, forecasting, cost analysis and financial insights that support executive decision making. This role partners closely with leadership to translate business strategy into actionable financial plans and ensure data-driven growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Strategy

o Work with the Chief Financial Officer implementing operations to ensure effective overall financial management and internal controls of Council in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulations.

o Develop short- and long-range financial forecasts to ensure organizational sustainability

o Conduct cost analysis across departments, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for efficiency

o Provide clear financial insights and variance analysis to support executive decision making

Accounting & Financial Operations

o Direct all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and cash management.

o Prepare monthly financial statements and bank reconciliations

o Monitor cash flow and all bank activity, including transfers, wires and ACH transactions

o Prepare cookie sweep analyses and track/ maintain ACH cookie forms for Troop Leaders

Budgeting, Compliance & Reporting

o Lead annual budgeting process and ongoing monthly budget monitoring/assessments

o Prepare financial reports for grants and ensure compliance with funder and regulatory requirements

o Assist with preparation for the annual independent audit

o Prepare and file NYS quarterly tax reports and 1099s

Team & Organizational Support

o Lead, coach, and mentor staff, fostering accuracy, timeliness, and collaboration

o Develop and maintain financial tools, systems, and documentation to improve operations

o To act on behalf of the Chief Financial Officer as assigned and/or necessary

Essential Requirements and Qualifications include:

o Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance

o Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a non-profit environment

o Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis

o Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; experience with Abilia or other accounting software preferred

o Proven ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.

o Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills

o Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

o Ability to adapt to new situations and changes as necessary.

o Flexibility in work schedule – occasional evening and weekend work may be required

o Fluency in more than one language a plus

o Knowledge of and passion for Girl Scouting a plus
