COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

You’ll be a key player in shaping how Long Live the Kings communicates with the world by engaging donors, volunteers, and supporters while making an impact on critical salmon conservation efforts.

Long Live the Kings mission is to restore wild salmon and steelhead and support sustainable fishing in the Pacific Northwest. Since 1986, we have been advancing science, improving management, and implementing solutions to balance the needs of fish and people. Long Live the Kings envisions a sustainable Northwest with a growing human population, a thriving economy, and flourishing salmon runs.

Position Summary

TheCommunications Coordinatoris a new, full-time, junior-level position and will be responsible for assisting with a wide range of communications and marketing tasks. The Communications Coordinator will report to the Director of Communications and will play a crucial role in achieving organizational communications goals through the planning, creation, implementation, measuring, and evaluating marketing and communications content and materials, both digital and print for both internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

Marketing Materials

  • Work with internal teams to create a range of collateral for projects, fundraising campaigns, and events (i.e., fact sheets, informational flyers, blogs, presentations, videos, merch, signage, etc.).
  • Support writing, editing, and producing content that reflects Long Live the Kings strategic objectives, ongoing projects, fundraising initiatives, and events for use on the website and other communication channels.
  • Create visually appealing graphics for blogs, digital/print collateral, email campaigns, social media, etc.
  • Proofread and edit digital and print content for accuracy, grammar, and brand alignment.
  • Coordinate and maintain supply of promotional items with the help of fellow staff members.
  • Assist with other communications tasks as needed (for example, photography, videography, etc.)

Website

  • Assist in managing the content calendar in Asana and proactively update the Long Live the Kings website, continuously looking for innovative ways to improve content, presentation, and usability.
  • Coordinate with staff and partners to create blog content that drives engagement and enhances Long Live the Kings organizational visibility.
  • Monitor website activity and generate monthly metric reports to help increase engagement, SEO, user experience, and brand awareness.

Social Media

  • Generate, curate, and post content for Long Live the Kings across various platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube) to increase brand awareness and engagement.
  • Monitor social media analytics, report trends, measure campaign performance, and help identify ways to optimize content.

Email Campaigns

  • Assist in the creation of targeted email campaigns to engage and inform current supporters, attract potential supporters, and fundraise for Long Live the Kings.
  • Work with the Development Manager to monitor email performance, analyze data, and make data-driven improvements to optimize results.

Media Relations

  • Assist in developing and distributing various press releases to segmented media outlets as needed.
  • Maintain and track media coverage, sharing regular updates.
  • Update, organize, and maintain media assets and media lists.

Internal Communications

  • Provide support for Long Live the Kings Board meetings, including meeting collateral creation and note taking.
  • Assist with updating Long Live the Kings Board collateral and SharePoint folder, including letterhead, directories, meeting notes, etc.

Team Collaboration, Values, and Culture

  • Collaborate with all departments in the organization, providing thought partnership and support as needed.
  • Assist the Communication Engagement Specialist with community events, as needed.
  • Stay informed about the latest science and salmon recovery actions.
  • Work collaboratively and learn from the entire organization, and with external partners, stakeholders, and governments (especially Tribal Governments).
  • Participate fully in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and work to apply a DEI lens to project and communication work.
  • Contribute to organizational culture by participating in team building activities to help build a fun, welcoming, and productive workplace.

Minimum Skills & Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism role or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with relevant computer software programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Mailchimp, Hootsuite, Bloomerang, etc.
  • Versatile writer who excels in both short-form and long-form content, including experience with editing and proofreading.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex scientific information and concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Proven experience in blogging, social media campaign management, email marketing (experience with SEO optimization is a plus).
  • Strong design sensibility and an understanding of visual composition to create compelling visuals.
  • Experience creating external and internal communications materials such as press releases, collateral, flyers, etc.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis to inform marketing strategies (including social media, email, and website data).
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to listen and engage with internal and external audiences from diverse backgrounds at all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team with a positive, respectful, and collaborative approach.
  • Ability to collaborate in a hybrid and technology-forward work environment, utilizing cloud-based team communication software such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and Slack.
  • Good natured team member who is willing to be flexible and contribute to the overall success of the organization.
  • Valid drivers license, and either a vehicle or willingness to rent one when needed (Long Live the Kings covers all cost of rentals).
  • The ability to handle multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, while ensuring a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team with a proactive approach to propel work forward and complete projects on time.
  • Proven ability to partner collaboratively and build trusting relationships with respect and humility to drive impact.

  • Knowledge of media relations best practices, and experience working with local media outlets
  • Familiarity with e-commerce platforms and product management processes
  • A passion for learning
  • Familiarity with analytics tools such as Google Analytics to track website performance metrics effectively
  • Experience successfully collaborating with agency networks and contractors.

Working Conditions and Location

Long Live the Kings is currently using a hybrid workplace model:

  • We ask all staff to work from our office in downtown Seattle at least one day a week. Our anchor days are currently Tuesdays.
  • Additionally, we have quarterly staff gatherings that require in-person participation, and there may be additional work location and travel needs specific to this position.
  • Note that this may change as we continue to adjust to workplace changes brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The physical requirements of this role listed below are representative of those that may need to be met by an employee in this role:

  • Operating a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to work in an office environment with fluctuating noise levels.
  • Occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds; however, assistance with lifting or moving items can be provided.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork which may include walking on uneven surfaces, working in/around water and boats, and traveling which may result in irregular work hours.
