Job Summary

This consultancy provides an opportunity to contribute specialized expertise to Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia’s mission in international cooperation and sustainable development. Working in Lebanon, you will apply your professional skills to address complex challenges in international cooperation and sustainable development and support the organization’s programmatic objectives. This role offers the flexibility of consultancy work while contributing to meaningful international development outcomes with global impact.

Qualifications

  • Academic Qualifications: A bachelors degree in political science, International Relations, Governance, Peace and Conflict Studies, Development Studies, or a related field is required.
  • Academic Qualifications: A master’s degree in one of these areas is desirable.
  • Academic Qualifications: A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in political, governance, or conflict analysis, preferably in Sudan and the Arab region is required.
  • Academic Qualifications: In-depth knowledge of Sudans political, social, and institutional landscape, including governance challenges, conflict dynamics, and development needs is required.
  • Academic Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in conducting political economy analyses, institutional assessments, and stakeholder mapping in fragile or transitional settings is desirable – A record of published work in relevant areas is desirable..
  • Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.
  • Language: For this position fluency in English and Arabic is required.
  • Language: Note: Fluency equals a rating of fluent in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and Knowledge of equals a rating of confident in two of the four areas..

Skills

  • Analyze Sudans current context, including governance structures, key actors, power dynamics, and emerging challenges.
  • Identify priority areas and strategic entry points where ESCWA can provide added value and develop evidence-based recommendations to guide ESCWAs interventions.
  • Output 1: Draft outline and methodological approach for the assignment.
  • Output 2: Draft contextual analysis of Sudans political, social, and institutional landscape.
  • Output 3: Final analytical report incorporating feedback and comments from ESCWA.
