Established in 1978, UN-Habitat promotes socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The agency works with governments, local authorities, NGOs and private sector partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat leads the global urban agenda through policy development, capacity building, and on-the-ground programmes that address rapid urbanization challenges affecting over half the world’s population.

Job Summary

Qualifications

• Academic Qualifications: Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a.
• Academic Qualifications: Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b.
• Academic Qualifications: Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), c.
• Academic Qualifications: Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
• Academic Qualifications: Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
• Academic Qualifications: Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
• Academic Qualifications: Preferred areas of study: Bachelors or Masters degree in Urban Planning, Town Planning, Architecture, Geography or any other related studies.
• Academic Qualifications: Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
• Academic Qualifications: However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
• Academic Qualifications: Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masters or Ph.D.

Skills

• Familiarize him/herself with UN-Habitats mandate and the tools developed;
• Support in the GIS mapping and spatial analysis;
• Support in the development of concept notes and project documents for resource mobilization in West Africa;
• Support specific Country offices in West Africa in monitoring and reporting to Regional Office for Africa (ROAf) and headquarters;
• Contribute to the communication and visibility of UN-Habitats activities in the countries;
• Perform other tasks as needed, including but not limited to note taking, drafting minutes, providing translations, preparing power point presentations, attending meetings.
