BWTEotRis a radically inclusive organization that is transforming inequitable and racially unjust workforce development and healthcare systems for Black women living in DCs historically marginalized Wards 7 & 8. Founded in 2019, BWTEotR directly addresses the health and economic disparities embedded within East of the River neighborhoods through systems, narrative, and policy change.

Job Summary

BWTEotR seeks a proactive, detail-oriented Operations Associate to provide essential support to the Executive Director (ED), the Operations Director (OD), and organization-wide initiatives. The Operations Associate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of organizational processes, managing communications, and supporting special projects. This role requires a high level of organization, time management, and adaptability. The Operations Associate will report to the Operations Director and will divide their time across three key areas: Executive Director Support (40%), Operations Director Support (40%), and Organization Communications (20%).

Key Areas of Responsibility

Direct Support of the Executive Director (40%)

As direct support to the Executive Director, this function manages the day-to-day requests and tasks that arise. You will work directly with the Executive Director each day to help her optimize her time and energy by curating a schedule that keeps her focused on her top priorities for advancing the organization and its goals. Someone would be most successful in this role if they are a problem-solver and willing to think through solutions.

  • Daily tactical tasks for this role might include the following:
    • Assistance with scheduling both internal and external meetings, responding to incoming requests for meetings, working through scheduling with necessary parties, and allocating conference lines
    • Ensuring the accuracy of the EDs calendar
    • Maintaining expense reporting on EDs behalf in accordance with company requirements
    • Take notes during meetings, transfer action items to the organizations project management system, and ensure timely follow-ups.

Direct Support of the Operations Director (40%)

When not working directly with the Executive Director, this role serves as a key support to the organizations administrative and operational needs as assigned by the Operations Director.

  • Assist with implementing and executing special projects led by the Operations Director, including organization-wide retreats and events.
  • Support cross-departmental initiatives by ensuring effective coordination and tracking progress in the organizations project management system.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and take notes during meetings, and compile meeting summaries for reference.
  • Monitoring supplies and needs for the physical office space and ensuring that they are replenished as necessary
  • Provide additional support for general organizational operations as needed

Communications (20%)

  • Co-develop and gather content for newsletters, targeting the general public and implementation partners.
  • First-line recipient of incoming correspondence to the companys general email account
    • Sorting and filing all emails to maintain a clear and prioritized inbox
  • Organize and maintain volunteer and donor CRM systems
    • Lead gift administration efforts, including preparing thank-you letters and coordinating donor engagement updates.

Key Qualifications

  • Deep belief in Black Women Thriving East of the Rivers mission
  • 2-4 years of relevant administrative experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Exceptional organizational and impeccable time management skills: strong attention to detail, can manage multiple workstreams, and stay ahead of deadlines
  • Attentive to detail and accountable to others, can operate at a quick pace with minimal supervision
  • Resourceful and solutions-oriented
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and related technical systems, with an ability to learn new software easily
  • Demonstrated cultural humility and understanding of systems of oppression, equity, and inclusion

Work Environment

This position is open to candidates in the Washington, DC area. Black women who reside East of the River are also encouraged to apply. Black Women Thriving East of the River has a flexible, hybrid working environment. This position requires 1-2 days of in-person work per week.

Compensation and Benefits

Black Women Thriving East of the River provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes a 4-day work week, unlimited sick time, annual office closures for a spring break week, a fall reset week, and a winter break during the last two weeks of the calendar year, in addition to a generous paid vacation allowance. We also offer employer-paid medical, dental, and vision premiums, a 401(k) retirement plan with a match, access to health and flexible spending accounts, and life insurance.

The salary for this position and all Associate-level roles at Black Women Thriving East of the River is $70,000. To uphold an equitable and transparent pay structure, there will be no compensation negotiations.
