Position Summary
The Youth Law Center (YLC) is excited to announce that were hiring a full-time, remote Senior Manager, Communications. The Senior Manager, Communications is responsible for managing content creation and strategic messaging targeting a variety of audiences and executed across multiple channelsboth traditional and digitalto advance YLCs legal advocacy and systems-change work on behalf of children and youth. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this role partners closely with attorneys, policy advocates, and program leaders to translate complex legal, policy, and practice reforms into clear, compelling communications that support both advocacy goals and development efforts. Communications produced in this role are designed to elevate youth-centered reform, influence policy, mobilize partners, and engage funders, donors, and stakeholders in supporting long-term systemic change. This position plays a key role in uplifting the voices, leadership, and expertise of system-impacted youth, families, and people with lived experience, ensuring that YLCs communications are grounded in dignity, equity, and authentic partnership.
The successful candidate must be an exceptional writer and communicator with experience in a variety of fields, including internal communications, marketing/advertising, strategic communications, and compelling storytelling. Daily responsibilities will include writing and copyediting support for news/feature stories, employee communications, press releases, advertising and marketing copy, website content, social media, video production, magazine feature articles, newsletters, and speeches/talking points. This position is also responsible for capturing photos or other visuals needed for communications material.
This is a fully remote role to be performed from a location within the continental United States, with occasional travel required.

- Improving access to education, including postsecondary ed, for system-impacted youth;
- Ensuring healthy transitions to adulthood for system-impacted youth and access to the services needed to make that transition; and
- Improving conditions in foster care and juvenile justice systems as supported by child and adolescent development research.

Core Position Responsibilities
The Senior Manager, Communications will:
- Research, write, edit, and proofread content for YLC print and online publications, working closely with attorneys, policy advocates, and program staff to communicate legal strategies, systems reform efforts, and impact for children and youth. Content includes annual impact report, events collateral, internal and external e-newsletters, print and online ads, and website.
- Partner with system-impacted youth, families, and people with lived experience to support ethical, strengths-based storytelling that centers consent, agency, shared ownership of narratives, and respectful representation.
- Constantly update and monitor content on the YLC website, serving as the main point of contact with the web developer vendor on site design and technical management and maintenance.
- Write scripts for, film, and edit short videos, including content developed in partnership with system-impacted youth and people with lived experience.
- Design graphics for digital media, including social media, website, and email outreach, using tools such as Canva.
- Capture photographs and visuals as needed to support content creation, prioritizing consent, dignity, and respectful representation.
- Assist with presentations, correspondence, speech writing, and internal email communications as needed.
- Support public relations and media relations initiatives connected to YLCs legal advocacy and policy reform work, such as writing press releases and media advisories, developing story materials for media, pitching advocacy-driven stories, tracking media outreach, and maintaining media contact information.
- Assist with copyediting, fact-checking and proofreading for a variety of content and communications as needed.
- Maintain content calendars and coordinate with the Director of Communications, Executive Director, attorneys, advocates, program leads, and youth partners to develop story coverage plans that elevate lived experience leadership, systems-change efforts, and reform outcomes, including supporting visuals, interviews, and unique story angles.
- Uphold best practices and ensure branding consistency across departments and platforms.
- Post to social media accounts, primarily LinkedIn, and increase overall social media engagement and presence.
- Support other writing and editing needs as requested.
- Assist with the development of effective donor and funder communications that connect YLCs legal advocacy and systems reform work to philanthropic priorities, highlighting impact and the leadership of system-impacted youth and families.
