JOB DESCRIPTION:The United Students (US) Site Organizer would be responsible for effectively coordinating the United Students clubs weekly meetings at Eastside high schools and bi-monthly on-site leadership meetings with our core leaders, which requires advanced organizing skills to facilitate school-change campaigns. We are looking for someone with previous experience facilitating and coordinating youth leadership training and a track record of effective base-building.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Facilitate student-led campaigns specific to racial, educational, housing, and youth justice at the regional and local level.
  • Develop and implement effective and efficient outreach strategies to engage youth at partner high schools (i.e. phone-banking, conducting classroom presentations, coordinating lunch-time outreach, etc.) to implement campaign activities and base building efforts
  • Develop youth-friendly curriculum on political education topics and leadership development skills
  • Responsible for the development and training of core youth leaders to recruit, engage, and sustain the involvement of an active base of youth members in campaigns at their school and in their community
  • Work with other US staff to coordinate campaign activities and component programming
  • Carry-out coalition campaigns and organizing activities in collaboration with ally organizations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key alliance organizations, school staff, faculty, and other allies
  • Develop relationships and maintain communication with parents/guardians of youth leaders
  • Provide transportation for members in ICS vehicles
  • Travel for InnerCity Struggle related activities that may include some weekends (retreats, conferences, trainings)
  • Participate in ICSs special events and grassroots fundraising
  • Engage in civic engagement activities, including, but not limited to, canvassing in the Eastside of Los Angeles
  • Work with other organizational staff to coordinate cross-component or community activities
  • Other duties and tasks as identified by the Youth Organizing Coordinator and Youth Organizing Director

ICS is seeking a person who meets the preferred qualifications:

  • Strong Social Justice analysis
  • Experience providing youth development and leadership support for diverse youth populations
  • Experience in youth organizing or community organizing in low-income communities of color
  • College Graduate who holds, at minimum, a Bachelor of Arts Degree or related experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Ability to prioritize and set goals by developing weekly, monthly, and quarterly work plans
  • Ability to work weekends as needed or required by campaign and organizational activities
  • Track record of accomplishing goals and objectives individually and in a team atmosphere
  • Effective and concise writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with schools, district leaders, and community allies
  • Ability to work in a team setting and provide/receive constructive feedback
  • Must be computer literate and preferably have experience working with databases, presentations, and internet research
  • CA drivers license and access to a reliable automobile (with at minimum, liability insurance) required
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred
