Marketing and Communications Manager

Position Summary

The Marketing and Communications Manager leads all external communications and public facing storytelling for the Garden. This role is responsible for growing awareness, increasing attendance, and strengthening the Gardens reputation as a regional destination for education, tourism, and community engagement.

Working closely with the Executive Director, this position ensures that communications efforts support organizational priorities, funder expectations, and long term visibility goals. The Marketing and Communications Manager supervises one direct report, the Events Coordinator, and oversees the promotion and execution of programs and events held at the Garden.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing and Communications

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that increases public awareness of the Garden
  • Manage and produce all external communications including website content, social media, newsletters, and digital campaigns
  • Ensure consistent branding, voice, and messaging across all platforms
  • Track and analyze engagement metrics to improve reach, attendance, and virtual interaction
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on messaging that supports major funders, tourism partners, and stakeholders
  • Monitor external communications to ensure brand and mission fidelity and consistency
  • Lead the board marketing committee

Digital Presence

  • Oversee the Gardens website, including content updates, storytelling, and event promotion
  • Manage social media platforms to grow followers, engagement, and community interaction
  • Produce and distribute newsletters and other digital communications to keep audiences informed and engaged

Events and Programs Oversight

  • Supervise the Events Coordinator and provide strategic direction for events and programs
  • Ensure events and programs are well promoted, well attended, and aligned with organizational goals
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to support successful execution of Garden activities

Funders, Tourism, and Public Visibility

  • Support the needs of major funders through clear, compelling public communications and visibility efforts
  • Align marketing and communications work with tourism goals in partnership with the Executive Director
  • Represent the Garden through professional, mission driven storytelling that elevates its role in the region

Qualifications

  • Experience in marketing, communications, or related fields
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills
  • Experience managing websites, social media, and digital communications
  • Comfort supervising staff and coordinating projects
  • Passion for community engagement, education, nature, or nonprofit work

This is a 30 hour per week contract-to-hire position, paying $32 to $35 per hour, with opportunity for growth as the organization expands and capacity increases. This role is designed to evolve alongside the Garden, with the potential for increased hours, compensation, and responsibility over time.
