About the Position

The Director of Development leads ECAs overall fundraising strategy, with a strong emphasis on securing philanthropic, corporate, and government support. This includes overseeing and directly contributing to grant writing, cultivating funder relationships, and ensuring all development efforts are aligned with ECAs strategic plan. The Director will work in close collaboration with senior leadership to set priorities, shape strategies, and communicate progress. This role also serves as a key external representative of the organization and provides leadership to staff involved in development activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Grant Development:

    • Research and identify funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and corporate philanthropy.
    • Lead, oversee, and actively contribute to grant writing to ensure high-quality, timely, and compelling submissions.
    • Manage a grant calendar and reporting system; ensure compliance with all funder requirements.
    • Collaborate with program staff to gather data, outcomes, and stories for proposals and reports.
    • Cultivate, steward, and grow relationships with current and prospective funders.
    • Ensure all fundraising efforts are tied to advancing ECAs strategic plan and priorities.

Strategic Business Development & Leadership Collaboration

    • Partner with senior leadership to align fundraising activities with organizational strategy and communicate progress regularly.
    • Provide strategic input on development priorities and funding pursuits.
    • Assess Requests for Proposals (RFPs), grants, and partnership opportunities, with clear go/no-go recommendations.
    • Oversee proposal development (both grants and contracts) to ensure messaging and orientation align with organizational mission and strategy.

Marketing & Outreach

    • Ensure fundraising and marketing materials reflect current organizational priorities and programs.
    • Support staff with funder-facing materials, presentations, and meeting preparation.
    • Represent ECA at conferences, association meetings, and networking venues.
    • Research and recommend speaking engagements and visibility opportunities to advance development goals.

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Bachelors degree required, Masters preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
    • 710 years of progressively responsible experience in development/fundraising.
    • Proven success in writing and securing grants from foundations, corporations, and/or government sources.
    • Strong ability to establish and steward relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders.
    • Excellent written, oral, and public speaking skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with senior leadership.
    • Demonstrated ability to align fundraising efforts with an organizational strategic plan.
    • Strong organizational skills, with proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
    • A high level of self-initiative and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with CRM or grant management systems preferred.

The pay range for this position $85k 95k annually, commensurate with experience. ECA provides health and dental coverage, paid holidays, and a 403(b) plan with employer matching, among other benefits.
