Organization Overview

The Womens Cancer Resource Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women diagnosed with cancer through compassionate, holistic programs and services that address emotional, physical, and practical needs. We are committed to advancing health equity and ensuring that underserved and historically marginalized communities have meaningful access to culturally responsive cancer support services.

Purpose of Position:

The Special Events & Communications Coordinator supports the organizations fundraising and engagement efforts by coordinating special event logistics and managing key communication channels, including monthly newsletters and social media. Reporting to the Development Manager, this role works closely with development staff to ensure events are executed smoothly and messaging to donors, and the community is timely, consistent, and engaging.

This is a parttime, nonexempt position, working 20 hours per week. The role is based in Berkeley, California. Some onsite work is required due to the nature of the position, with limited remote work available as appropriate. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to meet event needs.

Key Responsibilities

Special Event Logistics Support (60%)

  • Coordinate and manage logistics for fundraising and cultivation events, including event timelines, run-of-show documents, and planning checklists
  • Liaise with vendors, venues, volunteers, and internal staff
  • Track RSVPs, registrations, and attendance
  • Support event setup, breakdown, and on-site coordination
  • Assist with post-event follow-up, including thank-you communications and basic reporting

Monthly Newsletters (15%)

  • Produce and distribute monthly e-newsletters to donors and stakeholders
  • Draft, edit, and format content using email marketing platforms
  • Gather stories, updates, and event information from internal teams
  • Maintain content calendars and ensure consistent branding and tone
  • Track open rates and engagement metrics to inform improvements

Social Media Content Management (15%)

  • Manage and schedule social media content across organizational platforms
  • Create event-related and mission-focused posts (copy and basic graphics)
  • Promote events, campaigns, and donor impact stories
  • Monitor engagement and respond to comments/messages as appropriate
  • Collaborate with development and communications staff to support messaging strategy

Development & Administrative Support (10%)

  • Incorporate and develop best practices for cultivation events and document processes and systems
  • Maintain accurate donor and event records in the CRM
  • Support donor acknowledgments related to events
  • Assist with additional development and communications projects as needed

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 13 years of experience in events, communications, or nonprofit development
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Experience with event coordination and logistics
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms and social media tools
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfort working collaboratively across teams

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with donor databases (e.g., Raisers Edge, Salesforce)
  • Basic graphic design skills (Canva or similar)
  • Event registration platforms (Eventbrite, Bloomerang Fundraising, etc.)

Compensation:$28.00 per hour. WCRC offers a generous benefits package, which includes 100% coverage of medical, dental and vision; a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan, with 2% of salary employer contribution; long-term disability; vacation and sick time; and thirteen paid agency holidays and a floating holiday for your birthday.
