Position Summary

The Case Worker empowers Mercy Learning Center students by providing supportive, life skillsbased case management and guidance in navigating community systems. The role focuses on helping students access critical resources, connect with trusted partners for specialized support, and build financial stability. Through referrals, workshops, and in-house social service information sessions, the Case Worker ensures students are equipped with the tools and knowledge to thrive beyond the classroom.

This is a full-time position that works collaboratively with instructional and support staff to provide holistic, student-centered services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide life skillsfocused case management and student support, including intake, budgeting assistance, and coaching toward stability and independence, and development of short-term service plans to address students higher needs.
  • Connect students to local, state, and federal resources through referrals, application assistance, and coordination with external agencies for housing, healthcare, immigration, domestic violence, legal aid, and public benefits.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners and represent Mercy Learning Center professionally in advocacy and service coordination.
  • Plan, create, and host in-house social service information sessions, workshops, and presentations that help students navigate available supports.
  • Assist with the receipt, tracking, and equitable distribution of in-kind donations, maintain inventory, pantry organization, and accurate disbursement records.
  • Maintain thorough, timely, and confidential case documentation and submit routine summaries and required daily reports.
  • Collaborate with all staff, participate in meetings and professional development, and assist with student intake and registration as needed, and organization initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in social work, human services, counseling, psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in case management, social services, or community-based support work.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (required).
  • Strong knowledge of community resources, public benefit systems, and referral networks.
  • Experience supporting individuals from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate, confidential documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust, communicate clearly, and maintain professional boundaries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in adult education, nonprofit organizations, or immigrant-serving communities.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
  • Experience developing and facilitating workshops or student presentations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry materials or donations weighing up to 20 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to move throughout the building to support students and onsite programming.

Employment Details

  • Status: Full-Time; Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm
  • Reports to: Manager of Social Services
  • Location: Mercy Learning Center of Bridgeport, CT
