Hillside Health Care provides health care services to under-served people in southern Belize. Hillside operates a primary care clinic, provides nursing home care and palliative services, as well as providing community outreach and education. Our clinic provides the only physical rehabilitation services in Belize’s Toledo District.

Medical, physician assistant, pharmacy, public health, and physical therapy students from the US, UK, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia spend 1 2 months in year-round rotations learning about global health and getting hands-on experience working side-by-side with volunteers. Hillside has been working in Belize for 25 years, we are a recognized resource by Belizean government ministries and communities, and we are making a difference!

Responsibilities of the RD at Hillside Clinic include direct patient care, supervision of the rehab tech and DPT students, collaboration with short-term PT volunteers, updating and maintaining the monthly rehab schedule, collaboration with representatives from the Ministries of Education and Health, collaboration with home visit staff on the provision of services, obtaining supplies, student recruitment, coordination with the other members of the Hillside Management Team, and communication with stateside staff and volunteers.

Required Skills

  • Graduate of an accredited physical therapy or physiotherapist academic program with at least 2 years of clinical experience
  • Current physical therapy/physiotherapist license in good standing
  • Experience in or willingness to learn and apply Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) practice model
  • Ability to precept physical therapy and physiotherapy graduate students
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Skype, Google Drive, and Google Docs

Desirable Skills

  • Ability to practice in a diverse generalist setting
  • Interdisciplinary team experience
  • Experience in rural and/or underserved health care settings
  • Effective written, verbal, and electronic communication skills
  • Supervision and performance evaluation of support staff.
  • Strong public speaking skills
