About Us
The Transformative Justice Project of Colorado (TJP) is a dedicated nonprofit organization focused on advocating for the rights and well-being of system-impacted youth. We build a world where we keep kids in school and out of prison. TJP (formerly Colorado Juvenile Defenders Center) is on a mission to abolish the school-to-prison pipeline by dismantling systemic racism embedded in the existing institutions of education, mental health, and criminal injustice, while helping young people to develop the tools to define their own story. We are a growing organization and there is an opportunity for this position to grow along with us. We welcome you to join us in this work.
At TJP, we ground our work in decolonization, antiracism, and collective care values that guide how we show up for youth and for each other. Practically, this means we examine systems of power while maintaining professional accountability, structure, and clear roles within a nonprofit organization.
We practice shared leadership among our Executive Directors, which means shared power with clear oversight not collective decision-making by all staff. We strive to decolonize our work by unlearning harmful systems while upholding boundaries, transparent communication, and mutual respect. This approach ensures that our commitment to justice aligns with sustainable, functional organizational practices.
Core Values: Radical love, anti racism, community, decolonizing/reindeionizing, collective healing
