Taxpayers for Common Sense seeks an energetic, highly organized entry-level professional to serve as a Development and Program Assistant. This position is well suited for someone interested in federal fiscal policy and nonprofit advocacy who wants hands-on experience supporting policy, fundraising, and internal operations in a small, fast-paced Capitol Hill office.
The Assistant will work closely with senior staff across issue areas to provide administrative and programmatic support, assist with research and content development, and help manage internal tracking and reporting systems. The role also supports development and organizational operations, with responsibilities shifting as priorities evolve.
This is a hybrid remote and in-person position based in Washington, DC.
Responsibilities
Program and Research Support

- Provide general support across teams as needed.
- Conduct background research, fact-checking, and data gathering to support reports, fact sheets, and other policy materials.
- Assist with drafting, editing, and formatting written materials.
- Help maintain internal tracking systems related to policy projects and outreach efforts.
Digital and Outreach Support

- Assist in developing and managing content for TCSs website and social media platforms.
- Help prepare and distribute email newsletters and alerts.
- Track engagement metrics to inform program strategy.
- Support the production of graphics and digital materials using tools such as Canva or Adobe software.
Development Support

- Assist with grant writing and grant administration.
- Help draft donor reports and proposals.
- Maintain fundraising and outreach tracking systems and databases.
- Coordinate logistics for fundraising meetings and events.
Qualifications

- Strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail.
- Sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and work on a team. in a fast-paced environment.
- Capacity to balance varied tasks and responsibilities.
- Comfort working with databases and digital tools; experience with WordPress, email platforms, or design software is a plus.
- Commitment to TCSs nonpartisan mission and willingness to contribute wherever needed.
Relevant internship, academic, nonprofit, or policy experience is helpful but not required.
