GSGNY delivers empowering programs in nearly every NYC zip code, from traditional troop experiences to STEM and robotics, leadership development, and meaningful community service. We also support unhoused girls living in shelters across the city and send 5,000 girls each summer to our beautiful camp in upstate New York.

Through our iconic Cookie Program, Girl Scouts earn money for troop activities while building critical financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills.

About the Position

The Senior Director, Institutional Relations is an exciting opportunity for a passionate, mission-driven fundraiser to spearhead and support the growth of the Girl Scouts of Greater New Yorks portfolio of foundation, government and corporate partners. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director will be equally skilled as a frontline fundraiser and a proposal designer, working to develop relationships with program officers and executives. Working collaboratively across the entire organization, the Senior Director will drive an innovative and effective institutional giving program, generating key revenue for the organization.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director will:

  • Develop an annual fundraising plan and lead a process to support growth in funding from corporations and private foundations, increasing revenue from $1.6M to $4M annually over three years.
  • Manage cultivation and solicitation strategies from initial inquiries to written proposals to reporting and ongoing relationship management for newly identified and existing corporate and foundation funders.
  • Serve as a primary relationship manager for a portfolio of corporate and foundation partners, ensuring timely and thoughtful stewardship.
  • Supervise and manage an Associate working in collaboration to prepare clear, concise, and compelling letters, proposals, and reports for 50+ funders and projects.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify funding opportunities that advance GSGNYs strategic plan and align with foundation, corporate, and governmental interests.
  • Oversee prospect research, develop funder profiles, and provide briefings for meetings.
  • Grow corporate partnership portfolio, including managing volunteer engagements in close partnership with other departments.
  • Manage and deepen strategic corporate and foundation partnerships, serving as a primary relationship lead and coordinating across internal teams to ensure alignment, stewardship, and long-term engagement.
  • Oversee government grant writing and administration, including the contracting process and reporting requirements.
  • In collaboration with the finance team, develop budgets, forecast needs, and ensure compliance with funder requirements.
  • Maintain accurate institutional giving records, proposals, reporting calendars, and documentation using departmental systems and tools.
  • Enthusiastically collaborate with other members of the Advancement team to achieve the departments collective goals.
  • Participate in the goal-setting process to determine department revenue goals, in partnership with CDO.
  • Represent the institutional giving program at select donor events, meetings, and cross-departmental planning efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 57 years of experience in grants management and funder relationship management.
  • Exceptional attention to detail; able to accomplish all aspects of the development function from basic administrative tasks to high-level strategy.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to establish and monitor priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstration of initiative, flexibility, and resourcefulness in working effectively on multiple projects.
  • Outstanding written and presentation skills with the ability to speak clearly, write persuasively, and listen attentively.
  • Supervisory experience or strong desire to be a collaborative, intentional supervisor and mentor.
  • Experience with government grants and overseeing government grant awards, including submission of reports and supporting documentation a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team, with a track record of collaborating successfully with program staff.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, familiarity with Raisers Edge a plus.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for program and fundraising events and funder site visits required.
  • Familiarity with New York Citys philanthropic community preferred, especially in the areas of youth development, environmental education, outdoor adventure, and/or girls empowerment.
  • Belief in and commitment to the principles of the Girl Scout movement.

Compensation & Benefits

  • 110k -$125k / Annual Salary
