About Us

The Playtime Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing trauma-informed and educational play programs, as well as advocating for families experiencing housing insecurity or living in emergency and transitional housing programs. Playtime’s programs inspire joy and help support resilience and access to community resources for children and youth who are experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.

The part-timeProgram Support Coordinatorprovides additional support at multiple program sessions throughout the DMV as needed. The person in this position: acts as a substitute for site/program managers; supports program sessions and logistics; communicates with volunteers and site staff, program stakeholders and community partners; and conducts documentation and required reports. This position is part-time with a minimum commitment of 10-15 hours per week with a possibility to increase hours based on organizational need.

Position Responsibilities:

Program Delivery:Support the implementation of a play-based program model, either by assisting site/program managers or acting as a substitute when staff are unavailable to run program. Coordinate with site and program managers to support the creation of age-appropriate, guided activities with intentional therapeutic and educational benefits. Maintain the playroom’s procedures and expectations with a focus on the positive discipline model. Provide onsite coaching, mentoring, and supervision to volunteers to bolster their ability to help children learn and heal through play in a trauma-informed environment. Foster an environment where volunteers feel appreciated by and accountable to Playtime. Maintain good working relationship and communication with shelter program staff. Provide occasional on-site interpreting for Spanish-speaking families who register for our program so their children can participate in Playtime.

Compliance & Reporting:Comply with regulatory requirements (safety, child abuse reporting, and shelter procedures). Ensure compliance with requirements for program service documentation (enrollment forms, attendance logs, incident reports when applicable) as regulated by funding sources and Playtime procedures. Ensure that all regular reports are correctly prepared and submitted weekly. Must be able to produce or obtain an FBI and MPD clearance, Negative TB test result, negative drug test, Covid vaccine, and other background checks as required for Playtime site staff.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Reliable transportation to get to and from multiple worksites on time
  • Willingness to work outdoors at those sites that have playgrounds
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Dependable, consistent, and committed to mission
  • Mature work ethic and approach to teamwork and collaboration
  • Position requires active movement, ability to lift 20 pounds, etc.
  • Strongly encourage BIPOC individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, and men to apply
  • Spanish language skills is highly desired

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required, associates or bachelors degree preferred
  • 2-5 years working in the youth service field serving children of all ages, residing within a high-needs community
  • Prior training or experience working with youth with a trauma- informed approach and positive youth development emphasis preferred

Schedule

This position is part-time with an expected commitment of 10-15 hours per week and can increase based on candidate’s availability and organizational need.

Playtime has a variety of afternoon and evening programs and locations, so candidates should indicate their availability during these hours in their cover letter. Work will be performed at Playtime programs at sites in Prince Georges County and within the District of Columbia.

Other Requirements:

  • Conversational Spanish proficiency highly preferred
  • Knowledge of MS Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Travel within the DMV
