SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The staff attorney will provide culturally grounded and trauma informed immigration legal services to immigrants with financial need throughout Central Texas. Responsibilities include representing immigrant survivors of sexual assault/domestic violence, and other detained and non-detained individuals.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide know your rights to individuals facing the possibility of deportation
- Represent immigrant survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, and other detained and non-detained individuals
- Mentor pro bono attorneys
- Participate in community education and outreach activities
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Dedication and experience serving individuals with financial need and experience in providing culturally grounded and trauma informed legal services
- 1-2 years experience in immigration law
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
- JD from accredited university
- Bar Admission in any US state (Texas preferred)
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Fluency or proficiency in any other language
- Immigration clinic and/or court experience
WORK HOURS:This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position.
HYBRID WORK PLAN:This position will require working remotely and in-office in Austin. Travel is required to detention facilities, Immigration Court in San Antonio, Texas, and any other locations, as needed.
