The American Constitution Society (ACS) seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and thoughtful Assistant Director of Strategic Engagement to expand ACSs capacity to assist our network of lawyers and law students with career development and clerkship opportunities.
The Assistant Director will play a key role in shaping the careers of the next generation of progressive legal leaders. This positions main responsibilities will be to counsel individual ACS members through the clerkship process and other career opportunities, plan and speak at in-person and virtual panels on career development topics, and build on ACSs existing clerkship and mentor-matching programs. This position will report to the Director of Strategic Engagement.
The Assistant Director will also assist in other key elements of the Strategic Engagement Departments priorities including:
- Working with law school faculty to help them recommend their students to judges
- Writing recommendations for ACS members applying for clerkships and other jobs
- Developing relationships with progressive attorneys across sectors to serve as mentors for law students and young lawyers
- Assisting in convenings of judges and other influential lawyers
- Creating and implementing new programs for best assisting ACS members
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a J.D. degree from an accredited law school and have one to four years of professional experience. Candidates without a J.D., but with experience in legal recruiting or career services will also be considered. The ideal candidate will be familiar with state and/or federal clerkship hiring processes, and have outstanding judgment, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to ACSs mission and values.
