BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the worlds worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Atlanta office was established in 1979 and has resettled over 30,000 refugees from over 65 countries into the Greater Atlanta area. As the largest refugee resettlement agency in Georgia, the IRC in Atlanta resettles an average of 1,000 refugees into Georgia annually and provides additional services and assistance to another 2,500 refugees and asylees. SCOPE OF ICM INTERN WORK: The IRCs Intensive Case Management (ICM) Program provides case management services for up to 12 months to refugees and asylees who have special needs, such as significant medical needs, that cannot be fully addressed through standard resettlement services. Through a strengths-based, client-centered model of service delivery, the ICM program aims to increase self-reliance and community integration among our most vulnerable clients. Services include connecting them with internal and external resources, closely monitoring their progress through a series of assessments, and helping them achieve the long-term goals through their service plan. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid. RESPONSIBILITIES: The ICM Intern will assist caseworkers with the following tasks: Map community assets and help make referrals to community partners Assist in scheduling medical appointments for clients Educate clients on U. S. healthcare and social service systems Assist clients in applying for social service assistance programs Input client information into IRCs database Communicate client concerns with ICM staff and coordinate service plan with supervisor Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent communication and writing skills Organized with attention to detail Able to work independently and under pressure An interest in international and refugee issues Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects Strong desire to help people and enthusiasm for working in a multi-cultural setting Computer literacy preferably with PC systems A car/drivers license is beneficial Submit intern hours on volunteer dashboard REQUIREMENTS: Must submit intern hours on volunteer portal. Must pass a background check. Commitment of at least 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months. Must be at least 18 years old. Must be authorized to work in the United States. Please note that we are unable to provide sponsorship for a US work authorization. This is a an in-person position reporting to the ICM Supervisor. The internship will be filled on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications until April 10th, 2026, or until the position is filled, whichever occurs first. Internship will begin the week of May 11th, 2026.
