Your Opportunity Based in Casuarina, this onsite position as a Transition to Work Mentor plays a pivotal role in supporting young people aged 15 to 24 as they navigate their pathway toward employment, education, training, and greater personal wellbeing. From the moment a young person is referred, you will provide both individual and group-based support that strengthens their social and emotional resilience, builds confidence, and empowers them to pursue meaningful goals. Working closely with Youth Employment Specialists, you will help implement tailored support plans designed around each young persons unique strengths, needs, and aspirations. Mission Australias Transition to Work program offers a free and transformative service for young people, especially for those who have left school early or are experiencing challenges entering the workforce by providing structured guidance, skills development, and connections to education, apprenticeships, traineeships, and employment opportunities. As a mentor, you will be actively engaged in the community, fostering positive relationships and modelling pro-social behaviours that help young people build brighter futures. Your Key Responsibilities Promote early engagement and sustained participation through outreach, dropins, and informal interactions that help create rapport and a welcoming environment. Provide practical tools, guidance, and prosocial modelling that build selfworth and support young people to develop personally, socially, and professionally. Design, facilitate, and evaluate group workshops tailored to participants needs, building their confidence and skills for education and employment pathways. Collaborate with Youth Employment Specialists to deliver individualised support plans and link young people with relevant training, education, and job opportunities. Maintain accurate, confidential case notes, records, and documentation in line with Mission Australia protocols and program requirements. Contribute to program development through continuous improvement, innovation, and identifying new opportunities to enhance youth engagement. Build and sustain strong relationships with local youth services, community stakeholders, and referral partners to strengthen support networks and cofacilitate activities. Requirements for Success Demonstrated experience in Youth Services, Employment Programs, Community Services, or related fields, with the ability to engage and connect meaningfully with young people facing barriers. Tertiary qualifications in youth work, social and emotional wellbeing, community services, or a related discipline (or progression toward completion). Minimum 12 months experience working with young people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, demonstrating cultural understanding and respect for community protocols. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to advocate for young people and contribute effectively within a team. Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with young people, stakeholders, and service providers, fostering collaboration and engagement. Ability to balance program deliverables with creative and innovative youth engagement strategies that meet individual and group needs. Strong administrative capability, attention to detail, and digital literacy, with the capacity to meet KPIs and maintain accurate records. First Aid Certificate is desired but not required. Full driver licence with no restrictions. Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
