Result of Service
A comprehensive review and structured analysis of collected materials and datasets, identifying patterns, trends, linkages, and information gaps, accompanied by clear recommendations for further lines of inquiry; Analytical scoping outputs and written roadmaps to guide the systematic review, prioritization, and analysis of relevant datasets; Organized and systematically tagged facts, events, persons, and entities within relevant information management systems to facilitate consistent and methodologically sound analysis; A concise analytical methodology note documenting the tagging and review work undertaken and outlining approaches for systematic collation and analysis of information; Structured collation outputs identifying preliminary findings, emerging patterns, and analytical questions requiring further investigation; Targeted open-source research outputs that identify new leads, corroborate existing information, and address identified gaps; Short analytical notes on selected incidents or events related to missing children, clarifying key factual findings and analytical considerations; Contributions to analytical products, reports, thematic papers, and other outputs, as well as support to additional projects or lines of inquiry as required by IIMP.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) has been mandated by the General Assembly in its resolution 77/301 to clarify the fate and whereabouts of missing persons in Syria and provide adequate support to victims, survivors, and families of those missing. The IIMPs founding resolution places emphasis on the full and meaningful representation of victims, survivors, and families of missing persons. The task of this individual contractor is to support the IIMPs efforts to enhance its investigative and analytical work, with a particular focus on issues related to missing children. Through this individual contract, the institution aims to strengthen its ability to identify trends, address information gaps, and support the development of evidence-based outputs that inform ongoing and future lines of inquiry. The work undertaken will contribute to improving the overall effectiveness and responsiveness of IIMPs investigations and thematic analyses. The individual contractor will: Review and analyze collected materials and datasets to identify patterns, trends, inconsistencies, and gaps, and recommend further lines of inquiry; Support the scoping and analytical planning of relevant datasets, including preliminary review, development of prioritization and triage criteria, identification of key categories of information, and preparation of analytical roadmaps to guide systematic review and tagging; Tag and organize facts, events, persons, and entities within relevant information management systems to support consistent and structured analysis; Document tagging and review work completed to date and develop concise analytical guidance outlining approaches for systematic collation, identification of patterns and linkages, and assessment of information gaps; Initiate and support structured collation of facts and preliminary findings to identify emerging analytical observations and questions; Conduct targeted open-source research to corroborate information and address identified gaps; Carry out preliminary analytical review of selected incidents or events related to missing children and prepare short analytical notes identifying key factual and analytical findings; Contribute to analytical products, reports, or thematic papers, and support other projects or lines of inquiry as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Data Analysis, International Relations, Human Rights, Social Sciences, or a related discipline is required. A first-level university degree in one of the fields mentioned above in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in investigative analysis, data review, or research, preferably in contexts related to missing persons, human rights, or international investigations is required. Experience in conducting systematic document reviews, pattern and trend analysis and identifying information gaps is required. Experience working with case management or e-discovery platforms or similar tools for tagging, organizing, and analyzing large datasets is required. Experience producing analytical reports, thematic papers, or briefing materials that synthesize complex information into clear, actionable findings is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English and knowledge of Arabic are required.
