Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the Office of the Director of the Finance Division / Deputy Controller. The Finance Division is responsible for securing the financing of the Organizations expenses, pursuant to Article 17 of the Charter of the United Nations, and to ensure sound, effective and efficient integrated financial management of and reporting on United Nations resources, supported by a strong internal control environment. The Intern reports to the Director’s Special Assistant and Administrative Officer. This internship is unpaid and designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote. The intern will support the team in the administration and further development of the Global Intern Network on Microsoft Teams. Tasks will include: – reviewing data, testing and providing timely support to team members of the office. – assisting in drafting and preparing presentations and reports. – providing assistance/feedback in the process of producing cost recovery module dashboards. – collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data relevant to predictive modeling tasks. – providing inputs to building machine learning models using regression, decision trees and ensemble methods. – helping evaluate model performance and iterate based on findings. – documenting results and communicate insights to the team.

Qualifications/special skills

Education: To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Ability to identify and understand the various symbols on official United Nations documents and familiarity with finance related official documents and files.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Additional Information

Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For in-person internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant visa status (such as F-1 or J-1 visa), will be required to obtain a G-4 visa for a full-time (at least 35 hours per week) internship. Candidates who are on a non-immigrant visa status as students such as F-1 or J-1 visa with an employment authorization will only be able to intern on a part-time basis.
