Job Description

The Weaving Specialist will oversee all aspects of the weaving program at Fivers residential summer camp. They will have the opportunity to inspire and guide groups of 10-12 participants in the art of weaving. From facilitating hands-on weaving classes to maintaining looms and assisting campers in completing their projects, the Weaving Specialist plays a vital role in fostering creativity and skill development in a supportive camp environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate weaving classes to groups of 10-12 participants at a time. Instructing and guiding participants in both basic and advanced weaving techniques.
  • Foster a creative and supportive environment where campers can explore their artistic talents and develop new skills.
  • Maintain a well-equipped weaving studio with a range of materials and tools, facilitating a dynamic learning environment for campers to explore and create.
  • Proficiency in warping and maintaining looms, ensuring they are in optimal working conditions for each class.
  • Uphold camp safety protocols and guidelines related to weaving and general supervision, ensuring the well-being of campers at all times.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to campers, promoting teamwork, creativity, and a passion for weaving
  • Provide personalized assistance to campers, aiding them in completing their weaving project from start to finish.
  • Develop alternative weaving projects for campers when they are not actively weaving on looms.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience weaving
  • Experience teaching weaving preferred
  • Passion for working with youth

During their experience at Camp Fiver, the Weaving Specialist will gain many transferable skills such as leadership, effective communication, time management, strategic thinking, behavior management and youth development best practices.

Fiver offers a $100 referral bonus in the first paycheck for every counselor/staff member that you refer, is hired, & arrives at camp for staff training.

Located in beautiful Upstate New York, Camp Fiver is a four-hour trip from New York City and is 45 minutes southeast of Syracuse. Camp Fivers 129-acre property includes a lake, a river, woodlands, a learning center, dining hall, horse barn and more. Counselors live at Camp Fiver for all 4, 12-day sessions (off days will be discussed thoroughly during staff training) including one and a half weeks of training prior to camp.
