Recruiter: Promote the Vote

This Job Application Has Closed

Overview

Promote the Vote Fund (PTVF) is acoalition of more than a dozen leading partner organizationswho are dedicated to ensuring that Michigans voting system works for all. From voter education and engagement, to election protection, to legislative advocacy, our coalition effectively cuts through the partisan noise to advance voting rights for the people of Michigan.

We have drafted and worked with partners to passtwo transformative pro-voter ballot initiatives, have equipped hundreds of thousands of voters withtimely, accessible, multilingual voting-related resources, have co-led Michigans statewide nonpartisan Election Protection Programs, and have drafted, workshopped and advocated for dozens of pro-voter bills. In the years that PTVF has been active, Michigan has gone from being one of the lowest-ranking states in terms of ballot access to a recognized leader in election security and accessibility.

As part of our election protection work, PTVF recruits, trains, and manages hundreds of pro-voter volunteers to serve as poll monitors and challengers at polling locations and early voting sites statewide and to staff the nonpartisan 866-OUR-VOTE Election Protection Hotline. These volunteers form an essential component of Michigans nonpartisan Election Protection Program. We are seeking a hardworking, organized, and proactive Election Protection Volunteer Coordinator (EP Volunteer Coordinator) to lead this work, by developing and executing a strategy to recruit, retain, and manage these crucial volunteers. This is a part-time contract position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a plan to recruit hundreds of volunteers to serve as poll monitors and challengers, and to answer and monitor Hotline calls. We anticipate that the EP Volunteer Coordinator will need to use a variety of in-person and digital recruitment strategies to achieve this goal.
  • Retain and manage the volunteers by, for example, confirming their shift sign ups, addressing questions about their role and the training process, and sending training and shift reminder emails.
  • Assist with volunteer assignments and confirming locations where volunteers will be needed.
  • Serve as the point of contact for volunteers while they are in the field.
  • Participate in regular check-ins with PTVF staff.

Qualifications

  • Experience recruiting, managing, and retaining volunteers, and the ability to meet volunteer recruitment targets.
  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to ask questions, gather information, think creatively, and ensure the work moves forward.
  • Superior organizational and time-management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time and complete tasks by their deadline.
  • The ability to work flexible hours under tight deadlines and to effectively collaborate with Promote the Vote staff and partner organizations.
  • A passion for voting rights and ensuring that all eligible voters, regardless of who they plan to vote for, can cast a ballot free from intimidation and interference.

Applications must be submitted through the official careers portal. Female candidates and candidates from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
