Duties and Responsibilities

The duration of the internship is for six (6) months. This internship is UNPAID in person and full-time (35 hours per week), on the United Nations premise working arrangement from (New York, USA). This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote. Under the supervision of the AROS Programme Coordinator and relevant programme staff, the Intern will support programme management, coordination and capacity development functions, including:

  • Assisting with the preparation, editing, and formatting of programme documentation, including concept notes, agendas, reports, presentations, and briefing materials.
  • Supporting the coordination of meetings, training activities, and events, including logistical arrangements and follow-up actions.
  • Assisting with data collection, basic analysis, and visualization related to programme activities and outputs.
  • Supporting monitoring and reporting efforts by maintaining tracking tools, timelines, and activity records.
  • Conducting background research on thematic areas relevant to the AROS Programme, including emerging trends related to autonomous and remotely operated systems.
  • Providing technical outputs during the development of knowledge products and thematic materials, including training courses or publications on unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), unmanned surface systems (USS), unmanned underwater systems (UUS), and their respective countermeasures.
  • Providing general administrative and coordination support to the programme team, as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelors degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masters or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelors, Masters or PH.D. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this Internship position, full fluency in oral and written English is required.
