THE POSITION
The Finance Manager supports the organizations financial planning, grants financial management, and oversees financial reporting processes. Working closely with theCFO, the Finance Manager partners with program, development, and operations teams to support budgeting, financial analysis, and responsible stewardship of foundation, government, and international donor funding.
The role focuses on budget management, grant financial oversight, and financial reporting, helping program teams understand financial performance and ensure compliance with donor requirements. The position works collaboratively with theAssistant Controllerand other finance and program staff to support accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective financial operations across the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Finance Manager is responsible for:
- Supportingorganizational budgeting, forecasting, and financial planningin collaboration with the CFO and department leaders.
- Partnering with program teams to develop and monitorprogram and departmental budgetsand track financial performance.
- Preparingmonthly financial reports and variance analysisfor leadership and program teams.
- Managing financial aspects offoundation, government, and international donor grants, including budgeting, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting.
- Collaborating with the Development team to preparegrant proposal budgets and funding forecasts.
- Monitoring restricted funding and ensuringcompliance with donor financial requirements and reporting obligations, including cost allowability and documentation requirements.
- Working closely with theAssistant Controllerto ensure accurate recording of revenues, expenses, and grant activity, and to support themonthly close and financial reporting processes.
- Collaborating with theAssistant Controller and CFOon financial reporting for leadership and the Board, audit preparation, and maintaining strong financial controls and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants will ideally have many of the following competencies and some of the following experience:
- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field with 57+ years of nonprofit finance or accounting experience, preferably in a grant-funded environment.
- Experience managing foundation, government, and international donor grants in a multi-donor funding environment (e.g., USAID, EU, UN agencies, or other bilateral or multilateral funders).
- Familiarity with donor compliance, financial reporting, cost allowability, and audit requirements for government or foreign agency funding.
- Strong financial analysis, budgeting, and accounting skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance staff and program teams.
- Experience with financial accounting systems and general ledger software; Intacct or similar nonprofit accounting systems preferred.
- Experience preparing program, departmental, and grant budgets, including shared cost allocations.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to RANs mission and values.
COMPENSATION
This is a full-time position with an anticipated salary range equivalent to$95,000-$105,000USD commensurate with experience. The position is remote and open to candidates based in the US. RAN has staff and partners in time zones across the world, and staff are expected to work flexibly in order to connect with colleagues.
Benefits include RAN-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for the staff person and their partner/family, a retirement plan with a 3% employer contribution, and a slate of RAN-paid additional coverages. All staff are eligible for four weeks PTO (increases to five weeks after two years) as well as a paid winter break, generous paid holidays, a flexible work schedule, a 12-week paid sabbatical after every 5 years of service, and more.
