Organizational Overview:

Since 1973, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) has been a leader in the movement to end sexual violence. BARCC empowers survivors of sexual violence to heal and provides education and advocacy for the social changes needed to prevent sexual violence. The External Relations team plays a critical role in advancing BARCCs mission by building the resources, relationships, and visibility necessary to sustain and grow our work. POSITIONOVERVIEW:

BARCC is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on External Relations & Prevention Manager to play a central role in strengthening the organizations relationships across the communities it serves. Reporting to the Senior Director of External Relations, the External Relations & Prevention Manager is a key member of the External Relations team and is responsible for leading and coordinating community outreach, partnership development, prevention education initiatives, and public engagement efforts.

This is a highly engaged, roll-up-your-sleeves role for someone who thrives in a relationship-driven, mission-focused environment and takes pride in building meaningful connections that advance impact. The External Relations & Prevention Manager works across departments, supports both strategy and execution, and brings initiative, adaptability, and strong follow-through to all aspects of the job. The role ensures that BARCCs community presence, training efforts, and outreach strategies are aligned, inclusive, and responsive to evolving community needs.

The work directly supports BARCCs mission of ending sexual violence through healing and social change by expanding access to prevention education, deepening partnerships, and strengthening trust and visibility across diverse communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Engagement Strategy & Outreach

  • Develop and implement strategies to deepen community engagement and expand BARCCs visibility and relationships across diverse communities.
  • Cultivate partnerships with community organizations, institutions, and stakeholders to advance BARCCs mission.
  • Represent BARCC at community events, coalitions, and public forums.
  • Collaborate with the Development Manager to ensure community engagement efforts inform donor cultivation and fundraising strategies.

Prevention Education & Training Coordination

  • Coordinate and support delivery of prevention education initiatives and community-based training.
  • Serve as a liaison between community partners and program staff to align outreach, education, and service needs.
  • Track participation, engagement outcomes, and community impact metrics.
  • Identify opportunities to expand training reach and strengthen community-based prevention efforts.

Events & Public Engagement

  • Support planning and execution of community-facing events, awareness campaigns, and engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with External Relations and program teams to ensure events reflect survivor-centered, inclusive practices.
  • Assist in post-event evaluation and continuous improvement efforts.

Data Tracking & Systems Management

  • Track community partnerships, outreach efforts, and training data to ensure accurate reporting and impact measurement.
  • Utilize Salesforce and other systems to document engagement activities and support cross-department coordination.
  • Contribute to development of systems and workflows that strengthen community engagement infrastructure.

Communications & Donor Engagement Support

  • Partner with the Senior Director of External Relations and Development Manager to develop and execute integrated fundraising communications strategies across email, newsletter, social media, direct mail, and web platforms.
  • Support the drafting and editing of donor-focused content including newsletters, email campaigns, appeals, impact updates, and stewardship communications.
  • Collaborate on the development of compelling fundraising materials, including campaign messaging, sponsorship materials, and donor collateral.
  • Ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging that reflects BARCCs survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and inclusive values.
  • Support the development and management of a communications calendar aligned with fundraising goals, campaigns, and organizational priorities.
  • Track and analyze performance metrics (open rates, engagement, conversion, revenue generated) to inform strategy and improve results.
  • Support coordination of messaging for fundraising and donor engagement events, ensuring timely promotion, follow-up, and stewardship communications.
  • Work cross-departmentally to surface program stories, impact data, and community insights that strengthen fundraising narratives.

Internal Collaboration & Organizational Citizenship

  • Serve as a bridge between programs, External Relations, and leadership to ensure alignment across outreach, fundraising, and community priorities.
  • Model accountability, initiative, and collaborative leadership.
  • Act as an ambassador of BARCCs mission and values in all community-facing work.
  • Participate in departmental, organization-wide, and external meetings and events as needed.
  • Perform other duties in support of organizational priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate is deeply committed to BARCCs mission and brings persistence, adaptability, and a strong sense of ownership to their work.

Required Qualifications

  • 35 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development operations, or related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting individual giving, events, and/or grant fundraising.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Comfort working in a hands-on role that includes both strategic thinking and day-to-day execution.
  • Experience working with donor databases and fundraising platforms (Salesforce preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also thriving in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and survivor-centered values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in sexual violence prevention, social justice, or human services

organizations.

  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff, interns or volunteers.
  • Familiarity with fundraising metrics, reporting, and evaluation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to work comfortably with donor databases, spreadsheets, and cloud-based tools.
  • Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend events.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
