About the Project
IFPRI's Food Security Portal (FSP) aims to improve food security and build resilience against crises by providing data, news, and research to policymakers and development professionals. As households in Africa face growing, overlapping shocks, the FSP is commissioning research on innovative and anticipatory interventions to strengthen food security.
Job Summary
IFPRI is seeking six individual consultants to conduct research and author best practices briefs on mitigating the adverse food security impacts of various shocks. Each consultant will choose one of the topics listed below and produce a research brief based on a review of effective, evidence-based practices and policy alternatives. This is a remote, short-term consultancy ideal for researchers with expertise in food security and resilience.
Key Details:
- Position: Individual Consultant (6 positions available)
- Location: Remote (Worldwide)
- Duration: July 2025 – October 2025
- Deliverable: One best practice research brief per consultant.
Consultancy Topics (Choose one):
- Strengthening household resilience to price and trade shocks.
- Strengthening household resilience to climate shocks and natural hazards.
- Anticipatory interventions for human disease outbreaks.
- Anticipatory interventions for animal disease outbreaks.
- Anticipatory interventions for plant disease outbreaks.
- Anticipatory interventions for conflict.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters or doctoral degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Research experience on topics related to food security, resilience, or safety nets.
- Demonstrated experience in report writing and literature reviews.
- Fluency in English.
- Research experience in Africa is highly preferred.
