Job Summary

As the Staff Accountant I, you will provide essential general accounting support to IFPRI's Finance Department. Your role will involve managing purchase orders, vendor profiles, multi-currency bank reconciliations, and supporting payroll and payment processes using systems like Costpoint and Deltek. This position reports to the Controller and offers a great opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of a leading international research institute.

• Job Title: Staff Accountant I
• Location: Washington, DC
• Salary Range: $48,600 - $59,600 per year
• Contract: 1-year renewable appointment

Key Responsibilities:

• Review, verify, and enter purchase orders (POs) in Costpoint.
• Set up and maintain vendor profiles, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Perform monthly reconciliations for Euro and GBP bank and investment accounts.
• Act as a backup for payroll processing and assist with payment compliance inquiries.
• Assist with month-end closing procedures and follow up with international offices on outstanding reports.
• Help prepare daily cash position reports and weekly cash flow forecasts.
• Provide administrative support for financial systems, including Costpoint and Cognos.

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; OR an Associate's degree plus three years of relevant experience; OR a high school diploma plus four years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of international banking and currency reconciliation.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software platforms.
