JOB TITLE: Communications Junior Consultant TYPE OF CONTRACT: Junior Consultant, locally recruited UNIT/DIVISION: WFP Nordic Office DUTY STATION (City, Country): UN City, Copenhagen, Denmark DURATION: 11 months with possible extension
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT: The UN World Food Programme (WFP) Nordic Office in Copenhagen works to strategically position WFP as an innovative leader in food security and nutrition with the governments, political stakeholders, private sector, and other partners in the Nordics and Baltics. The office manages WFPs strategic partnerships with the Nordic and Baltic public and private sector, incl. foundations, corporates and philanthropists, which collectively constituted the 5th biggest donor group to WFP in 2024 contributing almost USD 500 million, primarily from the Nordic governments. The Nordic Office leads WFPs work with politicians in the Nordics to ensure that food security and humanitarian assistance remain a political priority in the region, incl. through engagements with Nordic NGOs and academia. The office also offers guidance to WFP Country Offices and HQ on how to engage with Nordic and Baltic partners, and engages with Nordic influencers from the culinary world, sports, and other sectors to draw attention to the global humanitarian needs and WFPs critical role in the fight against hunger. The Nordic Office is part of WFPs Global HQ and works closely with colleagues in Rome, other Global Offices and Country Offices to protect and diversify funding and partnerships with the Nordics and Baltics.
JOB PURPOSE:
- To help build awareness and engagement with WFPs work with Nordic based media outlets
- To help create and adapt content for Nordic-focused outreach and support advocacy campaigns and events in the Nordics
- To support work with and expand WFPs engagement with Nordic Goodwill Ambassadors (GWAs) and other high-profile supporters of WFP
- To support the relationship management of WFPs Nordic private sector partners and communicate the impact of these partnerships
- To collaborate with the Nordic and Baltic Governments on creating opportunities and content which highlights the impact of Nordic funding to WFP ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Director of the WFP Nordic Office, and in close collaboration with the Private Sector Partnerships Lead in the office and with the Communications and Private Sector Partnerships Divisions in HQ, the consultant will: Communications & Media Engagement
- Support relationships with Nordic-based journalists and media outlets.
- Monitor and analyse Nordic media landscape and identify trends, risks and opportunities for proactive and reactive engagement.
- Help set up media interviews and journalist engagement activities, and support drafting of press releases, op-eds and talking points.
- Adapt content for use across digital platforms, in partnership with WFPs global communications teams to ensure consistency and alignment.
- Help develop content that demonstrates the impact of Nordic public and private sector funding through WFP, including stories from the field and social media packages.
- Support WFP Country Offices to gather and produce stories, testimonials, and multimedia assets that showcase the impact of Nordic-supported programmes. Support to Goodwill Ambassadors and High-Profile Supporters
- Support the identification, cultivation and coordination of WFP Goodwill Ambassadors (GWAs) and other high-profile supporters from the Nordics.
- Help identify and pursue new opportunities to engage influential public figures and celebrities in support of WFPs objectives.
- Work with WFPs Global Celebrity and Influencer Partnerships team to ensure alignment with broader campaigns. Private and Public Sector Engagement
- Support the management of existing private sector partnerships, incl. corporates, foundations, philanthropists and celebrities, by ensuring timely delivery of agreed commitments such as progress reports and maintaining strong engagement with partners.
- Support in the development of pitches, proposals and presentations for both existing private sector partners and new prospects.
- Help maintain and update partnership databases to ensure accurate and comprehensive records of engagement activities, proposals, agreements, and reporting schedules. This involves maintaining an updated pipeline of prospects to support partnership growth.
- Support engagements with communications teams in the Nordic Foreign Ministries, Norad and Sida to amplify the visibility Nordic-funded WFP programmes. DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
- Increased awareness and recognition of WFPs work in the Nordics, an expanded network of Nordic-based media contacts, and an expanded social media presence.
- Strengthened relations with WFP Country Office communications colleagues.
- Digital and print communications content tailored to Nordic audiences.
- An expanded group of Nordic High-Level Supporters building awareness and support for WFPs work.
- A portfolio of finalized pitches, proposals, and presentations prepared for both existing partners and new prospects during the contract period.
- An updated database of potential partners (corporates, foundations, high-net-worth individuals, and celebrities), including ESG priorities, and alignment with organizational objectives. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Education: University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, Global Development, International Relations Business Administration, or any other relevant field; – or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.Experience:– Professional experience (2-3 years) in a communications agency, private sector company or foundation, media outlet, international organization, political organization, NGO or consultancy company. – Experience in media relations and press engagement. – Experience working with or coordinating celebrity, influencer, or high-profile supporter engagement (desirable)…
