PATH seeks a Project Director for the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Project. The global project will support and strengthen surveillance, detection and analytical capacity of infectious diseases across both human and animal health.
The Project Director must meet or exceed the required qualifications listed below. This individual will serve as the senior leader of the STRIDES project in Peru, including overall oversight of the project and liaising with government officials, donors, and regional/global staff. This senior staff position will be based full-time in Lima and will ensure the quality of project activities.
Key Responsibilities :
Lead development of project strategy and implementation from inception to completion, including the execution of all aspects of project implementation
Oversee a team of project staff based in Peru including financial management, technical officers, and administrative efforts
Identify and mitigate potential project risks and communicate efforts to donor and government counterparts represent the project team in meetings with key partners, government officials, and other stakeholders
Collaborate with local partners, government agencies, NGO’s and other stakeholders to enhance project outcomes
Maintain open and effective communication with the global STRIDES team, in- country donor representatives, and relevant government agencies, providing reports on project status
Coordinate activities with regional technical staff members based in Peru, ensuring that project activities are on track with work plans
Provide technical expertise to relevant project activities such as infectious disease surveillance, laboratory diagnostics, zoonotic diseases, and\or antimicrobial resistance on an as needed basis while overseeing the dedicated technical staff in country
Required Skills and Experience:
Master’s degree or its international equivalent in a related field such as epidemiology, public health, veterinary medicine, from a recognized institution
At least twelve years of general professional experience with at least ten of those years in infectious disease projects; some of those years must be in Peru
Proven experience as a Team Leader for development projects, working with US Government (USG) funding preferred
Demonstrated ability coordinating staff across multiple disciplines including both technical and operational
Ability to analyze information, identify problems and recommend solutions or adjustments that take into account the particular situations in different countries
Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines, and an emphasis on quality
Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization preferred
English and Spanish proficiency required
Willing to travel an estimated 20% of the time within Peru
Must have legal authorization to work in Peru
