For communication, awareness raising and advocacy purposes, UNHCR aims at producing high quality media stories, both through videos and photos, on the situation of asylum seekers, statelessness and refugees arriving to or living in Italy. UNHCR is looking for video-makers based in Italy who are able to produce high quality products according to UNHCRs requests in a timely and effective manner. The selected candidates will be part of a roster under the guidance of the Communications Unit based in Rome. Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide edited videos to be used for media placement and/or UNHCR website and social media on human interest/news stories for both local and global use as per UNHCR guidelines.
  • Material must be delivered in three versions: o the final version including subtitles and anagraphic layout for the Italian channels, o the final version without subtitles or text, o the final version without subtitles, text or music duly edited and captioned images as set in the UNHCR photo guidelines.
  • Provide Metadata for the footage as per the UNHCR guidelines. Minimum qualifications required Essential requirements:
  • The prospective consultants will demonstrate their strong technical skills, as well as their artistic and ethical approach to within their profession, by presenting a comprehensive portfolio of previous work.
  • The consultants will provide evidence of prior experience in the field of refugees/migration, whether through personal projects or commissioned assignments, highlighting their familiarity with sensitive contexts and storytelling in humanitarian settings. Desirable and preferential:
  • The consultants should have more than 4 years of progressively responsible technical experience, demonstrating recognized expertise in their field. A proven track record of excellence is essential, ideally supported by awards, nominations, or other forms of professional recognition.
  • The consultants should provide evidence of prior experience working with the United Nations, International NGOs, government entities, or large companies, showcasing their ability to deliver high-quality results in complex and high-profile environments. Obligations The consultants undertake to provide, at their own expense, all personnel, equipment, supplies, materials, tools and other facilities required for the performance and completion of services. The consultants shall ensure that they shall perform the services with the necessary care and diligence, and in accordance with the highest professional standards. The consultants will demonstrate commitment to the UNHCR Code of Conduct, its core values and guiding principles. The consultants will undertake not to disclose or discuss any information about asylum seekers, refugees, internally displaced persons, returnees, stateless persons, (all these categories are hereinafter referred to as persons of concern to UNHCR), UNHCR personnel or other work-related matters that come to their knowledge as a result of their assignment as consultants with UNHCR. The consultants will understand and accept that their obligation to maintain the confidentiality of information they will have received in UNHCR continues beyond the termination of their assignment with UNHCR. The consultant must obtain prior written authorization from UNHCR before publishing any content or sharing it with third parties, including their own agency or media outlets. If permission is granted for the consultant or their agency to use the material, distribution may only occur after an agreed-upon embargo period.
