Full Job Description

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and personal care support within the Primary Care Clinic, assisting participants with daily care needs and preparing them for medical visits. The Medical Assistant works closely with providers and nursing staff to perform clinical procedures, collect patient data, and support safe, efficient clinic operations. Specific Responsibilities As part of the interdisciplinary health care team, provides clinical and personal care support within the clinic to help participants maintain independence and safely remain in the community. Assists participants with personal care needs in the clinic setting as appropriate, including assistance with hygiene, peri-care, oral care, skin care, mobility, transfers, toileting, and ambulation. Prepares participants for clinical visits by obtaining and documenting vital signs, collecting specimens (e.g., urine, sputum), and assisting with other pre-visit tasks in accordance with Medical Assistant scope of practice. Performs clinical procedures within certification and Medical Assistant scope of practice, including blood draws and administration of medications by approved routes under provider direction. Communicates clinical observations and collected data, including vital signs and participant status, promptly to appropriate nursing or provider staff. Works closely with Primary Care Providers and nursing staff to prepare exam rooms, assist during visits or procedures, and support efficient clinic workflow. Collaborates with clinic staff to maintain adequate supplies and ensure exam rooms and clinical storage areas are stocked, organized, and ready for participant care. Provides supportive supervision and reassurance to participants, including reminders related to medical care, treatment plans, or dietary restrictions when appropriate. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized clinic environment. Documents care activities and completes required records in the electronic medical record system in accordance with program policies and procedures. Participates in staff meetings, case conferences, and training as assigned. May assist in the orientation or training of new staff, health workers, or volunteers. Promotes positive relationships with participants, families, visitors, and community partners through professional and respectful interactions. May provide administrative support, including coverage for clinic clerical functions when needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a certified Medical Assistant program Interest and willingness to work in a multilingual, multicultural environment. Knowledge of the community served. Current/prior experience in phlebotomy PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 35 lbs. Ability to reach, bend and walk Five finger manipulations COMPENSATION: Range: $25 – $29/hourly This rate is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific employee, which is always dependent on actual experience, client needs, education and other factors.
