Salary & Benefits:

  • $81,500 $110,000 annually,depending on experience, leadership background, and relevant education. Candidates with advanced education and substantial executive leadership experience may be considered toward the upper end of the salary range.

About Hope Street

Hope Street is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing safe, sober, and supportive housing for women in recovery from substance use disorder. Our work is rooted in dignity, accountability, compassion, and community. Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive and organizational leader of Hope Street, providing strategic direction, financial oversight, and organizational stability while supporting a strong staff-led operational model.

Day-to-day operations of the recovery residence are primarily managed by Recovery Advocates. The ED provides leadership through regular on-site presence, coaching, problem-solving, and continuous improvement of systems, policies, and procedures. The ED maintains a close connection to the house community, dropping in several times a week to support staff, address emerging needs, and ensure alignment with Hope Streets values, safety standards, and recovery-oriented practices.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED focuses on organizational health, staff support, fundraising, community relationships, and long-term sustainability. This role requires a relational, steady leader who trusts staff, leads through collaboration, and balances strategic leadership with thoughtful operational oversight in a small, mission-driven organization.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership & Governance

  • Partner with the Board of Directors to advance Hope Streets mission, strategic priorities, and long-term sustainability
  • Support the Board in strategic planning, policy development, and organizational oversight
  • Serve as a visible, relational leader who fosters trust and alignment across staff, board, and community stakeholders

Operations & Program Oversight

  • Provide oversight of recovery residence operations to ensure safety, compliance, and program quality
  • Support staff through problem-solving, guidance, and refinement of procedures and systems
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Housing Act requirements and applicable recovery housing standards
  • Assess program effectiveness and recommend improvements aligned with organizational goals

Staff Leadership & Culture

  • Hire, supervise, support, and evaluate staff
  • Foster a healthy, trauma-informed workplace culture grounded in accountability, respect, and collaboration
  • Provide clear expectations, feedback, and professional development support

Financial Management & Fundraising

  • Provide overall financial leadership, including budgeting, cash flow oversight, and financial reporting
  • Work with the Board to develop and monitor the annual budget
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including grants, individual donor cultivation, and community-based fundraising
  • Ensure sound financial practices, internal controls, and regulatory compliance

Communications & Community Engagement

  • Serve as the primary public representative and spokesperson for Hope Street
  • Strengthen organizational visibility and community trust through clear, consistent communication
  • Maintain strong relationships with donors, funders, referral partners, and community leaders
  • Represent Hope Street in local, regional, and statewide recovery and nonprofit networks, including WAQRR
  • Maintain open, transparent communication with the Board of Directors

Planning & Organizational Growth

  • Lead planning efforts related to sustainability, program development, and future growth
  • Identify and develop resources needed to achieve strategic goals
  • Guide the organization through periods of transition, growth, and leadership continuity

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of2+ years of senior leadership experiencein a nonprofit or mission-driven organization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing organizational budgets, cash flow, and financial oversight
  • Proven success in fundraising, including grant writing and/or individual donor engagement
  • Experience supervising staff and working collaboratively with a governing board
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort with public speaking
  • Ability to lead through systems, policies, and staff support rather than direct service delivery
  • Strong organizational, decision-making, and relationship-building skills
  • Deep alignment with Hope Streets mission and commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed care

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in recovery housing, behavioral health, housing services, or substance use disorder support
  • Lived experience of recovery or a close personal or professional connection to the recovery community
  • Familiarity with recovery housing standards, housing compliance, or Fair Housing Act considerations
  • Experience leading an organization through growth, transition, or expansion
  • Knowledge of Washington State nonprofit or recovery systems
  • Grant management experience with public or foundation funders
  • Experience with website management, communications, or digital outreach

Education & Leadership Background

Hope Street seeks candidates with a combination of education, leadership experience, and demonstrated success in nonprofit or mission-driven work that prepares them to effectively lead the organization.

Advanced education, such as a graduate degree in nonprofit leadership, public administration, social work, business administration, behavioral health, housing services, or a related field, may strengthen a candidates qualifications and may influence placement within the posted salary range.
