The Director of Development plays a pivotal leadership role in ensuring the financial sustainability and long-term growth of the National Crime Prevention Council. This individual will lead the organizations fundraising efforts at the highest level. The Director of Development will be joining in the midst of a McGruff brand revival focusing on new ideas and new ways to generate revenue. Working closely with the Executive Director, senior leadership team, and the Board of Directors, the Director of Development will design and execute a comprehensive strategy for major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, and innovative fundraising initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Serve as the chief architect of NCPCs fundraising strategy, establishing annual, five-year, and long-term revenue goals.
    • Advise and partner with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to align fundraising priorities with organizational strategy.
    • Provide regular analysis and reporting on fundraising performance, market trends, and new opportunities for revenue growth.
  • Donor Cultivation & Stewardship
    • Manage and expand a portfolio of major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
    • Personally cultivate relationships with high-net-worth individuals, national foundations, and Fortune 500 corporations.
    • Ensure a best-in-class donor stewardship program that deepens engagement and increases lifetime giving.
  • Fundraising Innovation & Grant Development
    • Identify, research, and pursue new revenue streams, including cause-marketing partnerships, sponsorships, and planned giving programs.
    • Oversee grant strategy, proposal development, and reporting to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
    • Collaborate with program staff to package NCPCs work into compelling cases for support.
  • Events & Campaigns
    • Lead the conceptualization and execution of high-impact fundraising campaigns and signature events that amplify NCPCs mission and brand (yes, including McGruff cameos).
    • Work with communications to develop storytelling strategies, digital campaigns, and media engagement that increase visibility and donor interest.
  • Organizational Leadership & Management
    • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing development team.
    • Partner across departments (communications, programs, operations) to ensure fundraising efforts are integrated into all aspects of NCPCs work.
    • Serve as an ambassador for NCPC at national conferences, community events, and with strategic partners.

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Deep passion for NCPCs mission of crime prevention and community safety.
  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree in nonprofit management, business, public administration, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 710 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure gifts, grants, and sponsorships.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing comprehensive fundraising strategies that deliver measurable results.
  • Knowledge of tax planning principles, philanthropic trends, and nonprofit financial regulations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including persuasive grant writing, donor engagement, and public speaking.
  • Strong management and supervisory skills with a commitment to developing staff.
  • Proficiency in fundraising CRMs, data analytics, and digital fundraising platforms.

The Director of Development will drive a diversified, growing revenue stream, measured and increasing on a quarterly basis.
