Job Summary

This consultancy provides an opportunity to contribute specialized expertise to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)’s mission in environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable development. Working in France, you will apply your professional skills to address complex challenges in environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable development and support the organization’s programmatic objectives. This role offers the flexibility of consultancy work while contributing to meaningful international development outcomes with global impact.

Qualifications

  • University degree (A minimum of Masters degree or equivalent is preferred) in engineering, management, finance, economics, energy, or a closely related field.
  • Academic Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of experience in project development, structuring, feasibility, or evaluation in the field of climate finance.
  • Academic Qualifications: Expertise and experience in climate change, climate finance, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and relevant sectors such as digital technologies.
  • Academic Qualifications: Familiarity and knowledge of the technical, legal, regulatory and market aspects specific to one or more of the following countries (Brazil, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Tanzania).
  • Academic Qualifications: Experience of working in emerging markets is an asset.
  • Academic Qualifications: Experience of working for an international organization is an asset.

  • The purpose of this agreement is to secure an independent technical advisor, to support the assessment and selection of proposals under the Digitalisation for Flexible and Resilient Energy systems call for proposals.
  • The energy sector lies at the crossroads of the climate and economic recovery challenge.
  • On the one hand, energy is the foundation of economic prosperity and a key driver for a resilient recovery.
  • On the other, the energy sector is responsible for 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions and must be decarbonised to address its environmental impact.
  • To ensure sustainable growth that is consistent with the Paris Agreement, the share of electricity generated from renewable sources must be increased rapidly.
  • To ensure renewable integration happens smoothly, the flexibility and resilience of the grid must be improved by modulating demand to deal with weather-dependent supply.
  • In this framework, digitalising energy systems to obtain and interpret data could transform the sector and assist in its transformation to a low-carbon, efficient, and resilient development.
  • Proposals are expected to showcase innovative business and regulatory models for the uptake of smarter digital power infrastructure.
  • The proposals were submitted from the following countries: Brazil, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania.
  • The support of independent technical consultants is sought to support the open call for proposal selection process.
  • More specifically, the technical experts will sit on the assessment team for the open call for proposals, supporting the assessment of relevant proposals from based on their background.
  • Two consultants are to be selected One for proposals from Tunisia, Morocco, and Nigeria, and another for Brazil, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, South Africa.
