Remote or in person – This internship is designed to be in-person and full-time (35 hours) but can be adjusted based on request by the successful candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) is an entity within the secretariat of the UN and was established in 2003. It is unique in that it is dedicated specifically to the Africa region and focuses on Africa’s priorities and international support to Africa’s development. OSAA’s core functions are advisory, advocacy, coordination and monitoring. The Office works with all parts of the UN system in an effort to ensure coherence in the critical work of the UN on the inter-related issues of peace, security and development in Africa. In particular, the intern will report to the Head of Office, OUSG-OSAA and will perform the following functions.
- General Course Moderation: -Assist in monitoring course participant queries and discussion forums. -Support the identification and flagging of technical issues for action by the UNSCC technical team. -Assist in flagging substantive policy or content questions requiring OSAA input. -Provide administrative support in coordinating responses to participant inquiries.
- Activity Submission Review: -Assist in reviewing and assessing participant submissions against established analytical frameworks and course criteria. -Support the evaluation of activity responses for quality and alignment with course objectives. -Assist in organizing and categorizing participant contributions for review.
- Documentation and Reporting Support: -Assist in preparing summaries of participant engagement patterns and common themes. -Support the documentation of moderation activities and identified issues. -Provide technical input for improving moderation processes and participant guidance materials. - Monitor course queries with documented flagging of issues for technical and substantive follow-up.
- Review and assess activity submissions with quality evaluations.
- Summarize reports on participant engagement, common themes, and moderated activities.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelors degree or equivalent). Preferably in development studies, international relations, economics, education, or related fields. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masters or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelors, Masters or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Familiarity with online course moderation platforms, experience applying analytical frameworks to policy design and familiarity with the African development context
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
