This position is responsible for assisting the Chief Financial Officer with the financial functions of the organization and assisting the Community Programs Director with client intake, management, and program evaluation. H.O.M.E. offers the individual in this position workplace flexibility in balancing remote and in-office work.

Housing Opportunities & Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.) is a one-of-a-kind Chicago organization that seeks to foster joy, connection and independence for Chicagos low-income seniors. H.O.M.E. is a bright spot for all who know it. Founded in 1982, H.O.M.E. has helped thousands of low-income seniors in Chicago maintain their independence by providing a home upkeep and repair service, shopping bus, moving program, policy advocacy, and three affordable apartment buildings where seniors can live comfortably in an intergenerational environment. H.O.M.E. is characterized by a warm and caring culture.

Responsibilities:

ACCOUNTING AND OFFICE ASSISTANCE

    1. Prepares bills for payment in A/P system.
    2. Enters payments received and prepares bank deposits.
    3. Prepares monthly shopping bus invoices.
    4. Prepares Upkeep & Repair client invoices monthly.
    5. Assists in general reconciliation of accounts and transaction support.
    6. Assists CFO in month-end close and financial data collection.
    7. Processes credit card payments.
    8. Orders office supplies.
    9. Helps to answer phones.
    10. Oversees George Street office equipment maintenance.
    11. Performs general office tasks and other duties as assigned.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS SUPPORT

    1. Assists with referral of callers to other appropriate agencies or governmental bodies.
    2. Researches and updates referral resources.
    3. Assists with collection, input, and reporting of program data, statistics and impact in database, including client satisfaction surveys for Community Programs.
    4. Assists Executive Director, Community Programs Director, and Program Committee to create reports to provide sufficient information and background in order for Board members to be conversant with and knowledgeable about H.O.M.E.s programs.

EVENTS SUPPORT

    1. Assists Development Staff with the annual fundraising event.
    2. Assists Housing staff as requested with event set-up at the houses.

Requirements:

  5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  9. Detail-oriented.

Experience/Education:

  1. College degree.
  2. Minimum 2 years of experience bookkeeping, accounting or finance.
  3. Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel, and Word.

Work Environment:

    1. Position requires frequent and regular computer and phone use.
    2. Workplace is a smoke- and drug-free environment.
    3. Intermittent travel to off-site locations may be required.
    4. Occasional night and weekend work may be asked of H.O.M.E. staff.
