This consultancy provides an opportunity to contribute specialized expertise to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)’s mission in environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable development. Working in Switzerland, you will apply your professional skills to address complex challenges in environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable development and support the organization’s programmatic objectives. Qualifications
- Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in a field related to data science, computer science, statistics, information systems or similar is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
- Academic Qualifications: A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in data management, data analytics or data engineering
- Academic Qualifications: Experience in data cleaning, transformation, aggregation and management
- Academic Qualifications: Experience in database design and administration
- Academic Qualifications: Experience with self-service analytics and data visualization applications (MS PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau or similar)
- Academic Qualifications: Experience in sourcing and integrating multisource datasets, including data scrapping and API-based data collection
- Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English (level III) is required. Level II of another official United Nations language is desirable.

Skills
- Plan and deliver milestone outputs on schedule, report risks and mitigation actions.
- Monitor progress and optimize performance of database(s) and visualization tool(s).
- Propose improvements to increase quality, functions and efficiency. 2. Data Management and Visualization:
- Conducts desk review of data needs and availability, map and source data from open data portals, partner agencies and APIs.
- Operate data pulling and validation from multiple sources, coordinate with data custodians where applicable.
- Clean, transform and aggregate data to produce analysis-ready datasets.
- Develop data dictionaries, conduct data quality control, ensure data coverage, completeness and consistency.
- Database(s) design and administration for structured storage of data and information, in line with data governance and privacy requirements.
- Establish metadata and cataloguing standards to ensure transparency, accessibility and reuse of data.
- Perform descriptive and exploratory analysis, including multivariate methods, to inform indicator construction.
- Draft technical notes to justify database design, methodological choices and data visualization as needed.
- Design, build and maintain data visualization tool(s) that present indicators, trends and disaggregation to non-technical audiences.
